Cortes Island Museum & Archives Society
Admittedly I visited the museum and gift shop portion more than the archives, and was not disappointed! We waited until Friday from Tuesday to visit this place. The selection of items in the gift store was decent and history of the island artfully and engagingly displayed. The person working there was delightful and helpful.

Very friendly staff but was a bit disappointed cause there really wasn't anything about the island ie... who founded it (where it got its name) or anything about the whaling station that whaletown got it's name or even anything about the indigenous people besides a book you could look at about surviving the residential school. There is info on the Japanese man who formed a logging company there yrs ago, a beautiful garden.

This small, but packed museum has wonderful staff and lots of information about the origins and beginnings of the island. Not to be missed.
