Our basement renovation goal was to have the largest room possible to give us maximum flexibility in use. Other contractors proposed a series of small rooms or a single weird shaped room because of challenges posed by low ducts placed in odd locations. It felt like building codes were restricting their creativity.Holland Homes & Renovations gave us the big room we wanted and minimized the duct work without compromising our space. They listened to what we wanted and proposed workable solutions. Best of all, the work met the building code that the other contractors were using as excuses!During construction there were the inevitable change discussions as we added features like a fireplace. Scott, Rob, and the whole crew always listened closely to what we wanted and provided great suggestions.The best part of hiring Holland was they listened to us and defended our interests! I contacted Angus Ravanelli from Sierra Gate homes to do the fit up for Not Your Father's Barber on Murray Street in the Byward Market because he came highly recommended to me from the building owner. I'm very grateful that I did. Never having opened a small business in a retail space before, I had a lot of questions and concerns about permits, building code and inspections and Angus was always available to me to not only answer these questions for me but to intervene on my behalf with inspectors regarding certain aspects of the fit up. He not only saved me money on the job, which was already reasonably priced, he also saved me stress and gave me peace of mind that the job was being done to spec and therefore there would be no issues come inspection time. And he was right, inspectors were very impressed with the work that was done and the shop passed easily and quickly.Sierra Gate arranged permit drawings, electrical upgrades, plumbing installation as well as finishing work related to the plumbing venting and baseboard work after painting. The subcontractors were punctual, professional and obviously very skilled in their individual trades. Not only did Angus arrange these contractors, he was present at least once, often more, every day that work was being performed. He was very hands on, available for questions and oversaw the work the way a General Contractor should. He took responsibility for every bit of work that was done in the shop and made sure everything was done to my satisfaction.Angus and Andrea were one of the best decisions I made during the planning process of opening my business. I know 100% that if I do ever run into any issues with the work done in the shop that they will stand by their work and I've very happy with their guarantee. Angus and Andrea have checked in more than one time since our opening in early July to check in on the work, the business and me personally to see if I need anything. Amazing people, amazing work and a reasonable price. If you are looking to build a high quality home with a builder that is reputable, honest and takes pride in their work, then Lakeland Homes is the builder for you. We just finished building our dream home with Lakeland Homes, which was a custom build. A week after we signed our agreement, the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. Even though there were many government restrictions in place and we were worried if our build would ever be completed, Lakeland Homes assured us every step of the way. One of the owners, Andre, worked with us to come up with a beautiful design for our home and suggested which upgrades were worth doing, while others were not. Honestly, you really wouldn't need to upgrade a thing with Lakeland as your builder, because they start with a high quality build and high quality products. Their prices include the fine craftsmanship as shown in their model homes and they take pride in building a quality product. There's no bait and switch. If you are interested in upgrades, this company is very open and honest about costs, and nothing that wasn't already discussed showed up on our final bill. One of the other owners, Mike, would personally visit our build to ensure it was coming along as expected, and if he found something he wasn't happy with, he made sure it was corrected immediately. That being said, they have the best tradesmen around, and all of their vendors were also wonderful to work with. It is clear that Mike, Andre and the rest of the Lakeland team are very experienced in building custom luxury homes. Any questions my husband and I had were answered promptly and advice was provided along the way, in regards to adjustments, style, colours, etc. Aside from the actual build, I also discovered that Lakeland Homes is very involved with their community, and it's so wonderful to see a local company giving back to their own community. I cannot say enough about Lakeland Homes. If I had to start all over again, I would absolutely make the same choice by choosing Lakeland Homes. Unlimited stars for this fantastic company!

We first worked with Ben in 2013 when he and his team completed a full home renovation for us. Since then we have hired them back for 2 smaller interior projects, and then an exterior and deck renovation this past summer. Ben is approachable, professional, and honest. He communicates well.
