I believe everybody should know what they are getting into. I have written this review so that somebody might be able to make a more educated decision about where they will reside while studying at this really amazing university.Early disclaimer: The two stars are what I give the experience of living in this residence keeping in mind the 'cheaper' pricing of the rooms. The driers and washers are rarely functional while they still charge $1.75 per use of each. The plumbing is extremely outdated with high/low water pressure, extremely hot/cold water that will burn you while showering, and water that tastes more like metal than water with all of the iron sitting in it.Don't expect toilet paper to be supplied on the weekends/holidays, they will staff security instead of cleaners on those days. They force you to buy an expensive meal plan that you can only use a very select amount of the time (no breakfast on weekends, no food on reading week, and no food from 2-5 p.m.).The fire alarms are extremely outdated and trigger over nothing (candles, vaping, heat coming from the radiators) forcing everyone to get out of the building (sometimes at a very inconvenient time). I feel bad for the fire department that is forced to respond every time this archaic system goes off.The wired internet is a joke and IT is slow and incompetent. The heating of the room is overkill and the only way to turn it off is to crawl underneath the desk, find the control dial, and attempt to twist it while not burning your arm/hand. No air conditioning. The cleaning staff are friendly and helpful but somebody doesn't schedule enough shifts in order to maintain the building properly. The best part about the room is that the furniture, shelves, and blinds are still servicable (although all of it is ancient). The mattresses are uncomfortable and something in addition to the mattress is required for a good night's sleep.Side note: the 5th floor of the building was flooded this year. According to students there was a plumbing pipe that burst causing multiple student's belongings to be destroyed. During this time residents of the 5th floor were unable to go to their rooms for nearly 48 hours. It seems that because almost all of the people in Mary Speechly are young college students, the administration would rather ignore faults with the building/management and bandage any issues instead of fixing them. Maybe it is a team effort with the students putting up with issues and not speaking out.Somebody has to be making money off of these university students and I would love to be in their shoes!
