More a review of the north pole express than the museum though I suppose to some extent valid for both.Certainly very pretty from the outside currently and with some lovely Xmas decorations generally including an impressive Christmas tree so that's definitely an upside. Caboose journey is fine - obviously short but I suppose the track that's available is what's available and there's not much you can do about that. I think it's a shame they don't make any effort with the cars themselves to appear Christmassy a missed opportunity I think.$15 per person is a very ambitious price tag though not unexpected admittedly - but I think overall some more thought and organization could probably go into it to make it better without much more effort or expense from them. Tbf there's a Santa Claus and some other stuff in another carriage that because my son is too young to really care about yet we couldn't take advantage of so for parents of slightly older children might be a better experience I think.Beyond that there's not that much to see really so having one of the other cars which seems to have been preserved for the public to look in being locked seems odd- why!? Perhaps there's a good reason but Who knows there was no sign or anything just a stairway up to a lighted up but locked door. Events like this are an opportunity to get people in who probably wouldn't normal have an interest in railway history so small things like that can matter more than they perhaps realise I think. Hot chocolate was $3 I've got no problem with the price in general that's cheap but when you're already paying $15 dollars making a cup donation only I think would give a better impression.Overall it was fine - a pleasant enough way to spend an hour and I expect they rely on days like that to survive so you can sort of understand their capitalistic opportunism and I don't really begrudge them that. However, I think a little bit more effort could be made on their part even If it was just a couple of small things. Our family all said they probably wouldn't return for the event again but I like trains as does my son as much as he can understand them anyway so I'd give it a go on a normal day when it was quieter and the normal price which I think is about half the event price. There's perhaps more to look at than I realized because of the crowds.

Some unique finds, super knowledgeable and friendly staff, with beautifully maintained historic displays make this museum a must see on any trip to Ontario, especially near Ottawa. Every exhibit had a purpose! Gotta love the Dental train car, the CP President's Cadillac, and many others. I'm originally from NYC, later eastern Pennsylvania and now Michigan I've been to several RR Museums, and this one was the most enjoyable overall.

Fun museum to visit with kids!Lots of very interesting vintage items, useful descriptions, but above all excellent customer service: they smiling staff to greet us, someone took the time to accompany us in a wagon to provide further explanations and another one helped us with the fun little wagon ride! The entry price is very reasonable and the 3$ ride worth every cent. Highly recommended, worthsthe detour.

So much history! Cars are set up around the property, with many open for you to self tour. Inside museum is beautiful. Lots of railway artifacts and descriptions in full detail. Wonderful learning experience. Teaches about the KP trail, CN and CPR railroad.

This is a fun museum that offers some very unique attractions, like the ability to rent one three different cabooses for overnight stays. They also have interesting exhibits, like the history of dental care that was offered to remote communities by a dentist that travelled to different areas by train. While this is a relatively small museum, and you can see"" everything in an hour

My teenage son and I visited recently and were really blown away by the experience. So much history is packed in these walls and on the rail lines outside. There’s a variety of types of railway carriages to view: cabooses, boxcars, steam and diesel locomotives, handcars, a rail snow plow, and even a dental car that travelled to small towns to provide care to patients across Northern Ontario. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about a variety of rail topics. A delightful stop for the whole family if you’re passing through.

My family went to Smithfalls to check the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario. The Railway Museum is for all ages.On site there are some farm animals that visitors can pet and feed. There is a gentlemen who plays instruments and sing and encourage all the visitor to sit and join the fun. There are some lemonade stand, stalls to purchase some cotton candy, and so on.The train ride is a fun experience for my kids as well.Over all it is a pretty fun place to bring my family.

If going to an event, purchase tickets in advance! The Easter weekend event sold.out shortly after we purchased our tickets. It was fun for the kids, however there wasn't much by way of historical items and railway items set up. It's a very small place. The kids enjoyed the train ride and some of the other things set up for them to do. It was a decent day out but now that we've been once, will probably not return unless there is another event similar to the one we attended.

Nice little railroad museum. Multiple examples of caboose from a variety of eras and operators. A rare dental car, snow plow, and dining car. Worth the $10 (+ tax) I paid.

Railway museum is very good, it's a good please for kids to see how trains are evolved. One can also stay and spend their time in the coaches to have an experience of spending time in the rail coach. It took roughly one and a half hour to go through everything. There's a place for kids to play, the museum is not too but good for kids to spend time.
