About the Business

Fairmount Bagel | Montreal Bakery | Hand made bagels | In 1919, Isadore Shlafman arrived in Canada and opened the first bagel bakery in Montreal. It was called the Montreal Bagel Bakery. It was located at the back of a lane, just off of Saint-Lawrence Boulevard, which was then known as "The Main". This is where Montrealers got their first taste of bagel, rolled by hand and baked in a wood-fired oven. This was the very first bagel bakery in Montreal

I understand why this is considered the best bagel in Montréal. The dressed up bagel was perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The shop is very no frills. No sandwiches and cream cheese must be purchased by the container. Also be aware that it’s cash only for orders under $20.

Went to Fairmount Bagel during a self guided food crawl in the mile end area of Montreal. Went during the week early afternoon so no line up. It was cool to see them making the bagels right in front of me. Went with a sesame bagel. It was fresh, perfect density and amount of sesame seeds. Had a bagel from St Viateur too, its a tight race between who makes the better bagel. I recommend trying both and judging for yourself.

Bagel bagel bagel, yes that's what you hear when you visit the plateau region of mount royal of montreal! Situated in the vibrant neighbourhood, this place sees a huge rush all the time. You have a lot of options to choose from, there are vegan options too. You get the spreads like butter and others over there. The bagels are reasonably priced. Must try in montreal! I tried the all dressed and the sesame one. These bagels are compared to the ones in New York.

Great bagel spot, their bagels are fresh and delicious! Parking spaces in front are limited. Minimum purchase is 20$ for debit or credit. Would give a better rating however i ordered a dozen bagels and once arrived home I realized they gave me only 9.

I got the onion bagel and wow amazing, they do not put on cream cheese or butter on but you can buy spreads from them, but you have to do it yourself. However I ate the bagel buy itself and it was delicious. They only take cash if you spend less than $20 also.

Stopped by to try their bagel as it was highly recommended by several travel guides online. I had the all dressed bagel which had onion, garlic, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and maybe some other seasonings(?). It tastes really good! And it was only like $1.40 which was not bad at all. Very efficient staff (there was no seatings inside, but there were some outdoor public seats outside) so people mostly come in and out.

Visited this place since it appears on the top Bagel places lists in Montreal. The bagels have the signature honey sweet taste and was overall very good. This place is cash only unless you buy $20 CAD worth of stuff and can charge on card. We didn't know that before hand and didn't have cash, but still wanted to taste some, so ended up buying enough bagels to last us a week! There is usually a small line to get in especially on weekends and holidays.

I'm sorry but as a Native of Toronto this place is by far in a different league of bagels. Let's be honest here, if you want a great tasting bagel to bring home to ur mama come here. If you want a lunch with lots of ingredients while waiting a 1hr line then go to Viateur. My only regret is not grabbing a bag of those delicious all dressed bagels from here. They are sweeter and can be eaten by themselves.

In addition to all the traditional bagels we have had, they have some good varieties of bagels. Oldest bagel shop in Montreal and no wonder why they’re really popular. It was pretty annoying that they don’t accept cards and please withdraw some cash before your visit. Cream cheese sold extra.
