HISTORYThe startAccording to many historical and lyrical records, the migration of Serbs to British Columbia can be divided into several periods. The first - the beginning of immigration can be taken only at the beginning of the 20th century or the period before the First World War. It is a period when the Serbs begin to move to the areas of British Columbia, to mining settlements and to places where there were wood processing plants. economic and social reasons. The second - the period between the two world wars, especially between 1926 and 1928 - for economic reasons. Also in Vancouver itself with a closer and more distant environment, Serbian emigration has come in increasing numbers.Third - after the Second World War - political emigration. Fourth - in the early 70's - for economic reasons. The fifth - perhaps the most numerous emigration caused by the war in the territory of the former Yugoslavia is settled in Canada in the period 1991-1999. years. It is estimated that in this period only 8,000 to 10,000 Serbs settled in Vancouver and surrounding areas.Ever since the division of the Serbian Orthodox Church on the North American continent, there was a strong need to create a proper church community on the west coast of Canada. The first meeting was convened on February 23, 1969 at the George Washington Hotel, Vancouver, BC. THE SELF-INITIATIVE COMMITTEE OF the small group of Serbs consisted of: Mašković Miloš, Mašković Dušan, Mirko Soldat, Mihajlo Zekić, Duško Milošević, Dobrivoje Paunović, and a few others agreed to schedule a public meeting for the establishment of the Serbian Orthodox Church with the determination of the Serbian Patriarchate. At the meeting, three important decisions were made: to establish the Serbian Orthodox community in the desire to spread Orthodox faith, Christian love and respect for everyone else;to provide a building fund for the construction of a temple and multiply the membership of full enthusiasm for the realization of the plan;a Steering Committee of seven full members was elected.Later it was decided to get in touch with His Eminence Bishop of East American and Canadian Mr. Dr. Savo Vuković, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Before the first arrival in Vancouver, Bishop Sava in a correspondence tells the Orthodox community: I ask you with all the name of the Lord of our Jesus Christ
