Being somewhat of a perfectionist and an engineer with a lot of technical experience I sometimes tend to be my own worst enemy in that I spend too much time on researching products that I intend to buy, especially on big-ticket items. This was the case when we decided to buy a Garaventa elevator for our home. That was 3 years ago and we could not be more pleased. It has operated all this time without so much as a hiccup and the company service has been excellent. This is why I am taking the time and effort to write this review. I feel they deserve it.When we went to their sales office, I checked out the structural elements and they all appeared heavy-duty. Jason, the salesperson was very good and sincere, and I trusted what he told us. Time has proven him to be correct. One of the biggest benefits for us was that Garaventa is manufactured right here in the Vancouver area. That makes them very accessible for any factory service, parts or anything else connected with the elevator. When we researched others here in Vancouver, we found that they were reselling elevators that were made in Ontario. This meant to me that if there were any problems or parts needed, they would have to come 2500 miles. Elevator shafts have to be very exact and have very small tolerances. If I remember correctly, our shaft had to be vertical within +/- 1/4 inch. That is why you need to get a very good contractor to build the shaft. The elevator itself is installed by the factory crew. Because many contractors are not that precise, the company waits until the shaft is completed and then sends out a crew to do the exact measurements because your elevator is custom-built to those dimensions after the shaft is finished. If there are any mistakes or parts missing, the competitive companies would be dealing with the manufacturers in Ontario which could have long delays. I also found Garaventa much cheaper because you are buying direct from the manufacturer where the competition prices are higher because of the middleman profits and shipping costs. Considering all of the advantages, the Garaventa was a no-brainer for us.
