Gampo Abbey

Lovely place to visit and relax. Unfortunately there were no tours at this time but maybe next year. The drive there is scenic too and it was a great part of our trip.

Gorgeous grounds surrounded on one side by seaside cliffs and on the other by woods. The trail to the Stupa is a peaceful walk well worth the detour from the Harbour.

Really beautiful monument that I highly suggest visiting, if you have the time.There is a lot to discover such as the history, how it was built and what each piece symbolizes.The drive up can be a bit rough seeing as it's a gravel road however the views, and the monument, are well worth it.

Interesting Spot along the way to Abbey's Wilderness. Great respect to Buddhist people.

Most peaceful place I’ve ever been. Tours not available at this time due to Covid. Beautiful walk through the woodland trail. Seems overgrown at first but opens up and the path becomes more clear very quickly. No cell service ,no traffic, no noise pollution. Just nature and quiet.

Nice place on Cape Brenton Island, would recommend doing walk on mark trials well worth the time!!

Buddhist monastery with retreat cabins. Closed certain times of the year for retreats. Recommendation is to call before you visit. A number of great hikes are available for the visitors.

My Gampo Abbey visit was in a response to a tip from my Health insurance advisor on the Big Island of Hawaii. Her family took annual retreats there. Since I was in the area I took the extra mile to visit and was delighted with such a serene property. The short hike to the Stupa of Enlightenment was a learning experience for me and I left it determined to better myself by studying the Fourty Nine Slogans. The only person I met there was Ron just ending a three year tour there as manager. He had spent a year there as a practicing monk. Such a wonderful conversation with him. He had visited Ram Dass on the Island of Maui in part to thank him for writing BE HERE NOW which I had read in 1976. The whole experience left me with very warm feelings.

Beautiful and an amazing place!! I have to add to my review because the peace and beauty of this place has stayed with me long since our visit!! This last visit in August, 2020, was not our first time here. The peace you get is so worth multiple visits for sure!! Even with some areas closed to the public, there is still the path through the forest available to the public!! It is such a special place, where you get to let your senses relax and just enjoy the moment!!

Went here it was closed for COVID but still glad I did. the drive out from Cabot trail to the abbey is one of the best views in Cape Breton.
