Adventures By HIP, Whale Watching SOOKE BC

This whale watching tour is an absolute must on your next visit to Sooke! Captain Mike was extremely knowledgeable, so friendly, and took us out to some great spots to see some of the wildlife. We saw some humpback whales on our tour, as well as some seals and sea lions. I still can’t believe how close we were able to be to the humpback whale. There were a few other larger boats on the water at the same time as us and they were not able to get to where the whales were quick enough, and one boat had to turn back due to too many people getting sick! There was 12 people in total on our tour plus Mike. This was such an incredible experience and we will definitely be making the trip back to sooke one day to do this tour again!

In contrast to other providers that we have seen on our tour on Vancouver Island, you feel really well taken care of with Sarah and Mike. We are with our two children (8 and 12) on the road and you have to say that the subject of safety is in the first place.In addition, we had a great whale watching, so that the entire tour was a successful thing. I would highly recommend this whale watching company. We took a tour this morning and we were very impressed with the set up. The initial meet and greet, form filling and survival suit allocation was fast and painless. The two coxswains/Captains were both nice chaps and knowledgeable. We struck extremely lucky in the fact that we saw a pod of about 20 orcas that were from the endangered Southern Resident Orcas. (J~Pod). What was lovely was that the boat steered away from the pod to give them lots of space and the coxswain called the appropriate authorities to report the sighting. He was very good in explaining the reasons these whales are endangered. We were then spoilt by seeing a large number of humpbacks, just circling around our boats. Everywhere you looked we saw humpbacks. Overall, this was a fun tour lasting 2.5 to 3 hrs. Well worth the money!

They were very friendly educated tour guides. Waited for folks that were late arriving.You get a snowsuit but it is a life jacket so it helps keep you warm.Do expect to get wet. It is a must do.I will definitely do it againThe guid will take photos and send them to you via email so mine are not of the whales.

Awesome trip out even thought the water was rough. He was very considerate to the passengers who got seasick or nervous during the wild ride.He ran through all the safety and information about the trip in good detail before. The exposure suits were a life saver, I have never been so cozy.He was a good guide, had lots of info about the whales we saw and was respectful of the animals themselves. As a bonus he takes photos of the whales you saw and sends them out after so you don't have to look at your phone or camera too much.Such a great trip with a super fun energy would love to get out there again! Also, the small group made it so much better.

We HIGHLY recommend Adventures By HIP! The whole experience WAS AMAZING ~ from booking in with them to the tour! Mike and Sara are professional, knowledgable, helpful and friendly. We have a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids - 9,7,3) and they were great with our children. Mike is a fantastic tour guide ~ he kept us safe and we learned so much during the tour. You can tell he truly loves the animals and the ocean. We were so FORTUNATE to see a 4 humpback whales and even saw a calf breech out of the water 6 times!! We were so impressed with how well Mike knew the area! As if being toured around the ocean and seeing the whales & other wildlife weren't enough, Mike also takes PHOTOS for you! So my family was able to FULLY enjoy and be present in the experience. I was even able to capture footage because I knew Mike was capturing awesome still shots with his fancy camera! WE WOULD 100% GO WITH THEM AGAIN and would tell anyone DO IT!" THANK YOU MIKE AND SARA!"

From the moment we donned out exposure outfits at the dock, to the moment we took them off Mike was a great guide. The ride was fun, the experience was memorable and because of the nice smaller sized group (12 of us) everyone had the opportunity to speak and see everything. Mike was considerate to turn the boat, as well as taking photos for us so we could just immerse ourselves in the adventure. We highly recommend booking with HIP whenever you're in the area and interested in seeing some whales. Even if it's a quiet day, the ride itself proves fun! Thanks Mike! Mike and Sarah made for a great experience viewing the whales and surrounding wildlife. The small boats made for close encounters with the humpback whales. Would highly recommend when you stop in Sooke!!

Our family had a wonderful time with Captain Mike and Sarah! Sarah was so sweet and helped us all get warmly dressed for the ride. Once we were out on the water, Captain Mike was fantastic as well. He had so much information about the various whales and other mammals we saw on our trip. We saw multiple humpback whales, seals, sea lions and a sea otter. The highlight was getting to see orcas hunting a seal. After the orcas finished their meal, they voluntarily came so close to our boat that if we'd wanted to we could have reached out and touched them. It was amazing! All in all, our family would highly recommend Mike and Sarah. They even sent us the lovely photos Captain Mike took from our tour. They truly care about protecting the waters, keeping the creatures safe, and giving their guests a great experience.

Amazing experience!! Highly recommend this tour. We saw a whale up close that hung around the boat for probably 20 minutes or better. It swam under our boat, I could have literally reached out and touched it. Captain Mike knew right where to go to find the whales and had great knowledge about the whales. Comfortable boat ride and he supplied nice warm suit for us to wear. I felt the price was very fair for the experience he provided.
