As an indigenous person this school has provided more opportunities for our children to become connected to their indigineous culture. They include drummers and singers to come in to any larger gatherings. Now from this day forward they have worked on improving their relationship with the indigineous community. If you are an indigenous person who wants to keep practicing both your culture and your catholt faith this is a great school to be at. They are working on the TRC. And have now changed ceremony of confirmation and communion to wear our cultural regalia and bring drums in as part of the schools ceremony.Great opportunity for our people to continue to help make change happen. The children love the lunches every Tuesday. And all the field trips to skiing snowboarding and snow showing and tubing

I've wanted to say my peace for a long time. When I went to school here, (years ago) it was disturbing. There was a boy in my grade who had learning difficulties, and was very clearly 'different' from the rest. He was treated differently by the staff, and not in a good way. He was constantly being yelled at and made fun of by teachers. It was ruthless. And we all had to watch it happen. The principal at the time (Mr. Bittante), was basically running a duplicitous show. Making things seem as if the school was a safe haven for faith and learning, but it was far from it. I remember one time it was recess, and I was lying on the grass. He came and he stomped his dirty shoe on my hair, and kept his foot there so I couldn't really get up. After all those years of not being in elementary school, I have still not forgotten that moment. A teacher (Mrs. Olivares), was also very abusive to the student with learning difficulties as well as being very mean to me. I remember during a talk about (the birds and the bees), she yelled at me multiple times because I had given the wrong answer about being 'chaste'. Well Mrs.Olivares, I am a woman of God, and live a very chaste life. I don't plan on changing that until I am married. Can your daughter say the same about her life? There was also another teacher (a female who was Lebanese like me)(I believe her married name is Mrs. Schultz now )and I remember her saying remarkably rude things about me to another teacher. About how I wouldn't 'shut up'. I remember coming home crying and my mother had to make an angry phone call to her. I couldn't believe that a teacher who was similar to me, and who talked about how she was bullied at her own school, would go ahead and bully me, a student, and so I could hear it too. It's just disgusting. Another teacher, Mrs. Weburg witnessed a boy classmate twice my size push me down the stairs. My own mother saw it, too. When my mom saw this happen she demanded that Mrs. Weburg change the seating plan so that he wasnt beside me. What did Mrs.Weburg do? She didnt change the seating plan and she didnt punish the boy one bit for hurting me by pushing me down the stairs. These stories are only a tiny fraction of what went on in that horrendous school, and I will never ever be sorry for saying what needed to be stated. A lot of years have passed since I've been in elementary and I hope and pray that things have changed. When you send your child to a catholic private school, you expect the utmost care to be taken, friendship to be shared, and faith-based learning to be given. You don't expect adults in charge to behave like ungodly and irresponsible people. All I ask of anyone reading this, is to be careful who you trust, especially in a faith based setting. Many thoughts and prayers to the students of St. Mary's. Many blessings too. Don't let ungodly people ruin your relationship with God. That is what I've learned.

An excellent faith community, I've recently reconnected with my home parish after about a decade away from Chilliwack. We have been welcomed in as part of the extended family.

My child just informed me he's done with summer break. He misses school and class and learning and his friends and teachers. To me this speak volumes to how amazing of an experience he had in his first ever year of school and wanted to give a shout out to all the staff at st.marys for the great work and care you put in for our children.Hearing a 5 year old 3 weeks into summer break beg to go back to school was not something I expected and it's so amazing to see the love he has for st.marys so thank you all so much for all you do!
