National Car Rental

Easily the worst National I've had to deal with, and I've been to Nationals from Victoria to Halifax. Crazy set of additional rules and restrictions posted at the desk. For example no gravel or unpaved roads" lolol. You can't be serious. Also I'm an Executive member (soon to be Exec Elite)

Booked through Air Miles for a family member to come visit us in Ucluelet. Once they arrived in Nanaimo, they were denied the vehicle because they did not have a credit card. They are new to traveling, and this should have been clearly communicated rather than buried in their terms. To top it off, the agent at the desk was rude and dismissive to my family members. I had the Air Miles refunded, then called National to make sure they would not be charging MY card, and she was rude and dismissive to me.

Inconsistent policy with the rest of the Enterprise/National umbrella; Have rented 7 vehicles in the last 8 weeks including in the United States and somehow this location is the only one that gave me flack about my Alberta GDL? Friendly Staff but the franchise owner needs to get on the same page as the rest of the chain or drop the name plate.

National Nanaimo does not rent vehicles to drivers on GDL licenses. They do not notify you of this at the time of booking. I arrived in Nanaimo for a 1 week vacation with plans all over the local area only to be told that I would not be given the car I had BOOKED AND PAID FOR. The customer service rep was apologetic but could not refund me on the spot & offered no solutions. This should be made very clear at the time of booking!!

national car rental at the nanaimo airport is just a franchise of national and doesn’t fully follow all policies and procedures set out by national car rental, just because you reserved a car on nationals site doesn’t mean you will get one at nanaimo airport. We have rented cars from national in other provinces and states and had no issues, that’s my vent.I will just mention the staff did go above and beyond, thanks to them my wife will make it to her mom’s funeral.

If you have an Alberta GDL license you will be denied service when you show up. This is not communicated when you book or at any point leading up to the rental. Seems that the franchise can make its own rules regarding who it rents to. I was also surprised to see that one staff member was rude to the other. National is usually my rental agency of choice but this location is garbage.

The gentleman who rented the car also took the return. He was pleasant, friendly, and aware. I would rent from him again.

Agent was disgustingly rude, was laughing at the vehicle we chose, stated in front of everyone that I had no money on my one credit card, told us just follow the path" to find our vehicle. Actually had to use the alarm to find it and didn't add in our airmiles.I've also contacted head office about this 3 TIMES

rented a subaru, great car. fair service until 15 days after the rental I was charged $1000 to replace a windshield that had suposidly been damaged under my care. I returned the vehical with absolutly no damage that i could see, the lot attendant also did not record any damage. Low and behold im being charged for damage to a vehical that is parked out side exposed to nature and on a gravel pad. absolutly unacceptable. they sent picutures of a large crack in the windshield that was defintly not there when i returned the car. further more they dident even have my name or signature, or the correct millage on the check in vechical form. Do NOT RENT FROM National. Or be pre paired to have a fraudulent billing charge on your credit card. BRUTAL

I was denied service because I have an N license. When I booked the car with the call center, they assured me that would be no problem. Either this location is inconsistent with nationwide policies, or their call center staff are poorly trained. Regardless, I will never do business with National Car Rental again. I recommend Budget car rental as I have used them in the past and had a good experience, unfortunately they were sold out this time.
