This little pocket Hooked is one of my favourite grocery stops in Kensington Market. You get to hit all the neo classics: Sanagan's, Blackbird, Hooked, Kensington Fruit Market.Hooked has great seafood from Canadian sources, which makes it easy to support Canadian businesses coast to coast and not wondering where my salmon (or mussels) are coming from. The staff are charming and remember you from week to week.I love shopping here.

They have this grilled squids when Kensington Market have its festival on the 3rd Sunday of every month (if I remember correctly, please double check. The freshly grilled squids are so delicious and soft, which is the best street food to try in Kensington Market when this monthly festival is on.

This is a friendly seafood shop in Kensington market. I ordered a dozen oysters and got a baker's dozen, which was a pleasant surprise. The oysters were delicious and they were easily shucked. I bought a very effective shucker at the shop as well and used it to good effect on the shells. They snapped open without much trouble, unlike many of the recalcitrant mollusks I have encountered on cape cod or from the Gaspésie. I'm not exactly sure where the oysters came from: they were simply billed as east coast oysters, which leaves a lot of room for the imagination. Perhaps they are from PEI, perhaps from Quebec, or even the USA. It's still a mystery to me, but I am not complaining. They were delicious. The oysters were fleshy and succulent. I recommend eating them with just a soupçon of lemon fresh out of the shell. The oysters were meaty and moist, like a fresh taste of congealed essence of the ocean. If you can eat them in the company of a lady of quality with a taste for the fruits of the ocean, all the better. Sadly, the oysters do not come with the witty banter that you might get from a cockney oyster man, but if you are clever enough you can invent your own jokes and patter.I popped into the shop twice, and both times the inimitable music of Queen was playing in the background. One of the songs might have been recorded during their epic 1981 concert in Montreal. I commend the good taste of the shop keepers and I look forward to returning again for more oysters.

Good quality but the most expensive fishmonger in Toronto, and seems content to be. Does not take AMEX. I only go if I can’t get to Diana’s, which is as fresh, if not more so, and cheaper.

Very knowledgeable staff, selling ethically sourced, delicious catch. As a result, the prices are prohibitively high for the average person, but fair. Most people will not be able to purchase here regularly. Now knowing more about the exploitative and destructive nature of the international fishing industry, I have stopped purchasing mass produced seafood, and treat this place as a location to treat myself and my loved ones every once in a while to delicious seafood I can feel confident consuming.

The scallops I bought in the past were amazing....... but this time I went in and bought a pre cooked lobster ,broke it open and it was pretty much rotten inside No meat in the middle (all putrified liquid )and the rest was super mushy ,starved itself poor feller. Im from Labrador..... I knows my seafood. Spoke to customer service lightning fast response and being rectified as we speak so it earns my future business and added a star.

The woman at the counter was very friendly and helpful, explaining all my options for sashimi grade fish with great knowledge. I ended up spending $35 for 8 oz of blue fin tuna and I’m sad to say it was simply not good at all. My first bite started off as tasting like essentially unflavoured matter and then as I chewed it evolved into notes of metallic and bad fishyness. The cut was also very sinewy and unfortunately not at all worth the price as we ate about two bites each before throwing it away. A shame because I was very excited for this dish and had such high hopes based on my experience in the store!

I’ve only been here once so far, as I only recently started buying fish on my own, but BOY O BOY, I will be back again ASAP! The quality of the fish is incredible. I got a steelhead piece of Salmon and their pre-cubed Tuna - both delicious and full (thick). The customer service is also what is pulling me back... Robin at the counter was helpful, courteous and friendly. She made the experience of buying fish for basically my first time very approachable. Highly recommend.
