I'm an IT professional myself and can normally fix or remedy just about all of my own problems, even in terms of data recovery. I had an absolute DISASTER of a server failure. Parallel drives failing at the same time. Activity that suggested a bad head one one. Cloning only giving me maybe 16% of my data back. Another 8TB damaged after a power surge. I thought ZipNerdz would be more of a mom and pop kind of shop and that I would have to go through some of the big boys in the data recovery industry to even have a shot at getting my data back. Almost everyone I spoke to before Lon disclosed that they wouldn't be doing the work themselves when I asked (I know enough to at least always ask this and not to get tricked into dealing with middlemen) and that it'd be sent out to California where I'd await with bated breath for months hoping for good news. This wasn't going to be an acceptable solution, but after a few days of shopping around a friend at work stopped by my desk and asked if I'd talked to Lon at ZipNerdz. I explained that I'd given up on expecting anyone local or even just a couple states over to have the ability to fix my problem and was just going to send stuff out to California when I put enough money aside, but I was told 'Well, Lon is probably the best guy in the state doing this stuff, and he'll at least tell you how you should go about it.' So I called and explained my scenario and based on how the call was going at first I expected another referral. Surprisingly by the end of it he had agreed to give it a shot without making any promises. The process took well over a month. Which, yes, is long, but when he explained everything he did to recover all my data I honestly couldn't believe my ears. Attempting to reprogram roms then replacing PCBs and soldering on the rom chips from old boards. Running through very very long deepspar recovery scenarios multiple times. Having to reclone drives multiple times. Hex editing to fix partitions. Stuff I highly doubt is even attempted by 99.9% of companies doing this kind of work. I honestly remained skeptic almost the whole time, but in the end and after all that was done was explained to me, I got all my data back and could not be happier. Lon is an absolute God in his craft. Michigan is lucky to have him, and you really won't find anyone for 1000s of miles with his skills. What I got for $1800 should have cost me nearly 10k with the kind of labor that was put in. He'll be my go-to for tougher IT solutions forever. The guy can do it all.
