I wish I could add one more ⭐️ to Shady Rest but I just couldn't.For one, my 2-piece Cod were thickly battered. They were well fried though and they definitely tasted awesome in my tongue. A bit too greasy in my opinion but they were still acceptable.Now the chips (aka fries) is something I want to object. I think the fries was not as crispy as I expected it to be. I felt like perhaps it had been precooked before the order was place; or maybe it was just the way they cook the fries like that. Mediocre" would be the right word to describe the fries.Fries aside

Shady Rest Fish & Chips
Shady Rest has been a long time favourite for fish & chips. Sadly, I have been disappointed the last two visits. The fish was very poorly battered, greasy & poor quality taste. The fries could have been cooked longer. For the price, it was not worth it. I hope the food quality and service improve, as would like to see Shady Rest thrive.

This restaurant used to be really good, I've lived here for 40 years. I don't know what they're doing now but it was dreadful. I ordered two pieces of cod and it was so greasy and overcooked you could just about wring it out. Half the fries were good and the other half had been thrown back into the fryer with the new batch so they're dried up and tough. Won't be back. When I called the restaurant, she just said well yeah, like who cares. Why would I come back to this restaurant ever when they're not even willing to fix their mistake. You can tell by the photo how dreadful it was, $21 for two pieces of cod and a medium coleslaw if you want good fish and chips go to C Lovers over by staples. I was closer to this restaurant today but I will drive the extra distance next time to get a good meal. Not interested in supporting a business that doesn't care to serve good food especially at such a high price and unfriendly and unwilling to rectify. Garbage food, garbage attitude

Went here to get some good food. My food looked like they drained the grease on my newspaper tray. 1.50 for one deep fried prawn. Baby shrimp and half inch of batter covering it from all sides. Would not recommend

This place used to be so good. My family and I loved the food. But the food we got tonight, wow the quality was just not there. So so so greasy, the fish was poorly battered either half battered and soggy or way too much batter and soggy. We also got the jumbo prawns and they were not prawns at all but tiny shrimps cut down the centre with so much batter you could barely find the shrimp. The “tater” sauce was miracle whip with a few pieces of pickles thrown in. So disappointed.

Shady Rest Fish & Chips
I've been here about three times now and have not experienced what the past reviews have experienced. The batter golden and not too oily. Never dark either was always a nice gold color I didn't have the coleslaw but their tartar sauce is the best I've had in house super nice owners and employees that work there. I would of missed this gem if I took what some people said to heart. Also super reasonably priced

I had a friend who just recently passed away and she told me Best Fish and Chips ever.I've been packing her place and nothing left to eat.Instead of going to the typical fast food joints I decide to go get fish and chips to share in a memory we never got to experience.The oil in the fish fryer has definitely not been changed in 4 to 7 days leaving my batter over cooked.Fish has to be over cooked at this point.I don't mind paying $25 for 2 peices of halibut and fish but change your oil regularly not just for competitions. By the way lots of awards up on the wall.The girl behind the counter friendly.For take out I leave an automatic $5 tip in cash.Unfortunately this was not a pleasant experience on my pallet and I trashed my meal after 2 bites.To the owner shame on you . Covid is over. Stop cutting corners.I hope the next time I'm back in Kelowna I will get to experience the quality and taste my friend told me about.

Shady Rest Fish & Chips
Ordered a 0ne piece halibut for 20$. First the guy brings me fries only without the fish. He realizes his mistake, apologizes and goes back to the kitchen... which may be considered funny, so I'm not angry. Then he comes back with a piece of fish so tiny it's insulting, and certainly not worth the price or able to satisfy even a toddler's hunger. The fries are only half cooked. I wanted to say something but the sales girl was hanging out on the phone and was ignoring me, so I'm leaving a review, cause now I'm angry. I think employees should not get high at work no mattter the job. I'm done with the place and intend to never go there again. Waste of 20 bucks

One of the best fish n chip spots takeouts in kelowna..traditional cod/halibut..new owners have kept the tradition of the shady rest alive.My family has been getting fish n chips there for almost 50 years.
