Gateway Surgery

It’s 6:40 on the day after my hip replacement surgery, Dr Johnston was at my bed already to check up on me and remove the bandage. Prompt service all the way!I am a 74 year old male who was in a lot of pain for more than a year. I choose Gateway to put an end to my misery and give me a new lease on life. At my age I can't afford to lose another year on the BC waiting list of ten months, so I was looking around for alternatives.Taylor and Jennie's speedy email responses kept the momentum of my application process going thereby moving me towards that elusive goal of an early surgery. They are an order of magnitude easier and faster to deal with than the competition.After reading up on Dr Johnston I had no choice but to go with Gateway. I had a very good experience dealing with Gateway Surgery. We made inquiries into using their service and were replied to almost immediately. Jennie was our co-ordinator who was invaluable helping us fill a cancellation position is short order. Dr. Woodmass was very open and prompt with setting up my surgery date. It was an excellent experience from start to follow up and I would highly recommend Gateway for professional and caring service.

Our journey with Gateway Surgery and Dr. Lo began after our 17 year old son who races MotoCross, had several severe shoulder injuries. We were advised by our family physician that in order for Josh to follow his dream of racing professionally at the Nationals in Ontario, he would require surgery. At this point it was “recommended that we contact Dr. Ian Lo. one of the best in Alberta”.Our experience from the initial consult in August 2020, with surgery in September 2020 to the final post-surgery visit in June 2021 was like no other!! Dr. Lo’s honesty and openness of what the surgery entailed made us feel very comfortable in our decision to go forward. Dr. Lo was very thorough in his explanation of the options and he and his team helped us make a plan that would see Josh back on the bike and heading to Nationals in August, 2021The professionalism of the whole team at Gateway Surgery should be commended and we cannot thank you enough for all you did in helping Josh reach his dream.

Had an hip replacement. Experience was very good, from the Initial consultation to the final video call from the physician. Treated very well, staff kept in touch throughout process and checked in frequently afterwards. Members of the team assist with accommodations, any concerns, X-rays etc. They are always available for any questions throughout the process. Highly recommend Gateway Surgery.

My mom chose to have a hip replacement done at a private clinic because she did not want to wait at her age. I found Gateway Surgery online and phoned them. I and my mom were impressed by their professionalism. They gave us confidence, and we knew we were at the right place. My mom had her hip replacement with Dr. Adam Hart. Thank you so much! We had a very good experience with travelling, staying and post operations care. I have nothing but great things to say about this. My mom’s life was back normal. We would like to thank all the staff at Gateway Clinic for the exceptional and outstanding patient care!

I chose to have my hip replacement done at a private clinic as I did not want to wait for years at my age. I found Gateway Surgery online and was impressed by their professionalism and by learning that the surgeon was also head of orthopaedic surgery at a local hospital in Calgary. Their receptionist, Jennie, was friendly and open with all the information I requested. I spoke with the surgeon, Dr Johnson, a few times prior to surgery and also to the anesthetist. A lot of health information was requested prior to the surgery which I liked. Maybe having a video about what the surgery would have involved might have been helpful but once I was at the clinic, the care was superb. Physio visited the day following surgery and once I mastered the use of the crutches and was shown the exercises, I was sent home with a set of crutches and an ice machine equipped with a sleeve to fit over the hip. The information booklet that was given to me at discharge was very helpful but I would have liked to receive a phone call from the surgeon at the 5-6 week post op and not have to phone to ask for this. I would highly recommend using this clinic. My recovery has been smooth and I am almost back to normal at the 3 month mark.

I never thought I'd give a 5 star review for any medical service, or write a review longer than 10 words, but our experience doing a hip replacement with Gateway Surgery changed that. From first contact, the helpful and friendly professionalism gave us confidence that we were at the right place.Jennie made sure we had the information we needed, when we needed it, and didn't overload us with everything all at once. Every question we had was answered promptly and courteously; pre-op appointments with the surgeon and anesthesiologist were scheduled as they suited our schedules, and we were given options of in-person or video appointments.A poor surgeon will spoil the work of great office staff, but Dr. Johnston even elevated it. The result of his excellent work was a surgery with zero infection, quick healing, minimal scarring, no staples! and best of all, my wife can actually run and walk pain free now, four months later.Jennie is great at making sure that you have everything you need after the surgery as well. They even include a Cryocuff for you to take home to help with the recovery. My wife used this a lot and needed very little else for pain management.I'm trying to think of something that Gateway could improve in this experience, but I'm drawing a blank. If you need a new hip, call Gateway Surgery. They'll care for you like family- (coming from someone with an awesome family).

Once you decide that private surgery is the solution then Gateway Surgery is the ultimate option. I found dealing with Gateway was like family because the staff really seemed to care, was quickly responsive, thorough and always was available with information and items to ease the process.I confirmed April 19 to proceed and had surgery May 24!!!!I had bilateral knee replacement (both knees same day) and feel this was a great choice.Pricing was very competitive but so many things are included that others charge separately for or direct you to your family physician.The thoroughness is illustrated as they provided a detailed list of items to complete and even provided the requisitions for Lab work, X-rays, etc so there was no need to bother your family doctor who would not have been familiar with all the specific needs for the process. Every step worked smoothly.Surgery performed in Montreal but Gateway has the ability with their clinic in Calgary to perform all the follow up, including staple removal, physiotherapy solution, surgeon consultation (I did the phone direct with the Montreal surgeon) and Gateway provided personal, prompt follow up to questions and all follow up appointments.The initial contact and booking process was first class - efficient, knowledgeable, confident and thorough. Rate 10 out of 10.The surgery and clinic time was amazing, comfortable, knowledgeable and based on how I feel now was effective and the best. Rate 10 out of 10.The local follow up with Gateway (routine and questions) has been great. I couldn’t recommend this place more. I have been treated so kind by everyone who works here. From Jennie helping me with all of the information I need to Colleen helping me with a physio plan and Dr.Woodmass and his team for making me feel so welcome and comfortable walking into the surgery room. Dr.Woodmass did an amazing job with the surgery on my knee. I’m about 5 weeks post op and am doing amazing considering the little amount of time it’s been. Private surgery is the way to go instead of having to wait years to get it done publicly, I was booked in within 2months to have the surgery I’ve been needing! Thank you so much to everyone at Gateway Surgery for making my experience a 10/10, I can’t thank you people enough. Still on the recovery road but am so happy it’s only up from here.

My experiences with Gateway and Jenny Carson were great. They were very accomodating as far as the scheduling went, and I have nothing but great things to say about my experience for my surgery.My replacement knee is doing great, as good as new!!
