Ocean Ecoventures Whale Watching

Having a hard time even giving 3 stars. This experience was a disappointment to say the least. We DID see orcas but they were so far in the distance that trying to take photos with anything other than a high powered zoom lens was senseless. While our boat pilot seemed knowledgeable about the area and wildlife/marine life in general, they never pulled in close enough for us to really SEE the orcas. I understand there are restrictions and regulations for how close you can get to the marine life, but other boats in the area were CLOSE (one was almost touched by an orca!). The orcas could be seen swimming closer to the shoreline but our pilot stayed pretty much in the middle of the channel the whole time; never brought us in close like the other boats were doing. BIG disappointment especially when one considers the cost of the excursion. The only real positive was that it was a gloriously beautiful day to be on the water. However, I will NOT recommend Ocean Ecoventures to anyone.

Excellent Tour! Captain Simon has excellent marine knowledge and boating skills, making sure we were all comfortable and well positioned to the whales, without disturbing them. I will definitely go again! Thanks Simon!

Whale watching has always been on my bucket list but I was kind of disappointed because this company doesn't take you close enough to the whales. You see them from 200 metres away because of the new regulations which is fine but they did NOT disclose that anywhere on their website/social media pages/waiver form. Their website and social media gives off the impression that you'll get close to them because they include pictures and videos of the whales upclose. The people who work there independently go out and take those. Not with other customers on board. Other than that, our tour operator Taz was nice and knowledgeable on all the whales we saw. Just keep in mind if you're spending the money for the tour, you'll be 200 metres away. In the off chance, a whale might get close to the boat if the whales decides too but it's rare because the tour operator willingly steers farther away when they see a whale to ensure they stay 200 meters away. I'm including non zoomed in photos I took of the whales from afar so that is what you'll see with your naked eye. There was another whale tour company near us and they went more closer - still keeping a safe distance. Do your research before you spend alot of money.

We had an incredible time on Sonic with Captain Taz. She was so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions and she had an amazing respectful and appreciation for the whales. We saw the humpback whale, Big Mama and a family of orcas, with wonderful stories. Definitely recommend this company for your whale watching adventures.

What a great time my family had on Captain Shaun’s tour. He was very enthusiastic and the love he has for the magnificent creatures was contagious. Weather was perfect and we were treated by quite a number of whales…. Dreamer, Snarkie and Zorro to name a few…. Looking forward to our yearly tradition of whale watching.

Captain Taz gave us a great tour Monday evening. She knows a ton about killer whales and shared her knowledge with us all evening. Put us onto two 15 year old killer whales on boiling reef, where they fed on seal and then they led us out a few miles to another reef for some more feasting. Beautiful, smooth ride on a fast zodiac style boat with fantastic 360-degree views. Stopped by some harbor seal and oyster catcher roosts on the ride back in. Enjoyable from start to finish.

What an incredible experience , our guide Taz has a total addiction to her work, which comes through like a shining light accompanied with the vast knowledge base she has makes the tour all the more exciting. We were very fortunate to find one of the local pods (many pictures enclosed) and some Sea Lions which were on their way south...I would highly recommend these people they all truly love what they do.

It's a very long way out to see a few orcas. We saw three small orcas from far away and then had to return back. Sorry but not worth the money. We had a much better experience in Telegraph Cove and Victoria.

Captain Tas was amazing for the entire tour!!! Very knowledgable and able to answer all our questions! Orcas, Humpbacks, Eagles, Habour Seals, Osprey, a sea lion, and sea birds and lets not forget the amazing scenery! Couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! Lots of time spent with each animal we spotted!!
