Fotheringhay Castle
The castle has long gone. Pretty spot next to the river. Very serene. A small monument makes mention of Mary Queen of Scots and her house arrest here and later her execution in the castle. This was the birthplace of King Richard the Third.

We did a walk from Fotheringhay to Elton round to Warmington Mill and back to Fotheringhay and up the mound to see the views and castle remains. It was a really nice walk, five miles. We finished off with a drink in The Falcon. A nice pub, friendly atmosphere and a lovely church nearby to look at too. A good day out :)

Earth works only visible and a single, fenced in large' lump' of masonry by the river. Includes motte and moat. Fascinating history to the Castle and the associated very pleasant village. Plenty of information boards. A good pub in the village after you've done your research!

To access this site you will need to park in the small village of Fotheringhay, and its a short walk down a lane. To one of the most important spots in British history. Don't expect a castle or big ruins, there isn't any, apart from one pit of rubble, a few plaques and earthworks..what you do get is a sense of history, of walking in the footsteps of Richard iii and Mary Queen of Scots and that is priceless and good enough for me.

Pretty much nothing here, just a mound where the castle used to be however there is some history with the site if your interested in the tudor times.

It is a little hard to find the site, and there really is only a field, a piece of rock and lots of sheep droppings. Views from the top of the hill are beautiful.
