Amazing experience. Loads to see and learn. Summer students were more than knowledgeable. They had an advanced knowledge of local history, events that took place, and the dates, statistics of each event, amazing!. It was an absolute pleasure to visit a place like this, and meet employees, who thoroughly enjoy what they're doing. Great job guys and gals. I highly recommend paying this wonderful place a visit !! Thank you !!

From what I have learned, the chairperson and the curator, both of who successfully ran and operated the three museums under the Sydney Mines Heritage Society for seventeen years, reluctantly resigned from the Sydney Mines Heritage Society in June, 2021. Their departure was not a very amicable one. During the months following their departure, five other members of the Board of Directors resigned from the Sydney Mines Heritage Society. The three remaining members formed a new Board of Directors and one became the Chairperson, one became the Vice-Chairperson, and one was already the Board Secretary. Their Facebook page has not been updated since January , 2022, and the Sydney Mines Heritage Society Webpage has been taken down. Google has this site listed as temporarily closed. The page listing the Board of Directors for the new Board has been removed. It leaves questions as to what is going on.

Really knowledgeable staff, nice exhibits. Separated into three sections, one about plant fossils, one about the coal mines/police station and one about local sports. It's mostly a guided tour, we got the help of a very friendly guide. We could also ask questions directly to the Dr. who brought back himself most of the fossils, seemed very passionate about his stuff.Very interesting stuff all around, pricing is pretty fair.

We’ve had a wonderful trip to fossil centre followed up by the Heritage museum tour. We were 5: 2 adults and 3 children (8,12,14). All of us loved it there. The staff were so great, special thanks to Cynthia and Riley (forgive me if I spelled the names wrong). They gave us such great tours, very knowledgable. Guided tours were included in the price, we paid 26 CDN as a family. This place is such a gem! Highly recommend.

The tour guides were lovely and or kids loved the fossils and the displays. They even let our kids keep a fossil at the end of the tour. Just fantastic!

Staff are really knowledgeable about the fossils, and can answer questions. The tour can be a bit dry for children, but about half way through they can see replica dinosaurs, enjoy colouring, and playing in a sand pit. Some fossils are enclosed in glass and others are available for touching. Overall it is pretty neat. Cash only though, so come prepared. There's a little gift shop as well, I found the prices reasonable.

This place is beautiful and in my own backyard! Kids had a great time looking at all the fossils and being able to dig up their own in a sand box for kids. Helpful friendly staff who offered us a tour, but my kids tend not to listen so I declined to be able to look around ourselves which was fine! Definitely worth the stop!!

We stopped in at this lovely museum when we were in Sydney one day last week off our cruise ship. While technically closed, the two young people working there were kind enough to let us in and show us around. We really enjoyed the fossil displays and the historic museum in the train depot. It was a lovely way to spend a few hours, and we really appreciate the staff's kindness in letting us in.I've been on several boards and commissions in my hometown, and the drama described by other reviewers is not unique to this town or board. While posting such a comment on a review site such as this is, in my opinion, inappropriate -- after all, what does the drama on the board have to do with the quality of the museum displays? -- I sincerely hope that issues can be resolved in a mature manner that allows these museums to operate for years to come.
