After a regretful incident, I was charged with a serious crime. I am grateful to have found outstanding representation during these difficult times. I was clearly outlined my options, and, I was able to secure bail while awaiting a preliminary hearing and trial. Maryanne Salih is diligent and gives my charge the attention and care it requires. I am in the process of lowering my charge; while maintaining an option for NCR (not criminally responsible). I have been working with Tobias on and off over the course of the last 5 years, living through a nightmare sequence of events. I am generally a caring, loving, non-violent person who has survived an abusive parter and resultant mental health challenges and was vulnerable to systemic abuses, including from the police and our medical system, the latter for whom my ex-partner occupied a position of power. I never had any prior dealings with the criminal systems but it has been an eye opening experience. After being neglected while charged with a criminal offence and in jail and without having had a bail hearing, by a previous criminal lawyer, and with no way to get in contact with friends and family due to an antiquated phone system, an inmate recommended Tobias’ previous firm. Tobias arranged a bail hearing without a guarantee of payment. He represented me well in trial and we were both disappointed when we heard a guilty verdict. He then wrote an excellent appeal and won, with the original conviction having been overturned by a superior court judge. Unfortunately, I have suffered extreme trauma as a result of these experiences, including the threat of losing my children, however Tobias was a much needed light during this dark period, which after much therapy and a reinforced support system, I am finally able to overcome.
