Mary’s Fish and Chips
I went today for a lunch takeout of the $15 daily special which was Chicken souvlaki. I ordered it from an Indian gentleman who was the only worker there at the restaurant. He told me it would cost $22 but I told him that the sign outside the restaurant said it was $15. He looked very surprised and then went outside to check the sign. He then agreed with me and charged me $15 plus tax. I paid and after giving me the change he told me that it would take 20 minutes to prepare. I was on lunch and so I told him that I could not wait that long. I then chose the fish and chips which cost $3 more and would only take 5 minutes to prepare. Around 5 minutes later my order was ready and I took it and left. I later found that there were no utensils in the bag. Besides that, the food was absolutely horrible. The fish was not fresh at all and the fries were dry and old. By old I mean they have been refried a few times and were rock hard. Please see photos. There was a rancid odour to the whole meal stemming from the oil used in the frying. This was an absolute horror of an experience from the attempt to overcharge me to the unsanitary preparation of the meal. I chose this restaurant even though the prices were a little high to give small businesses some support during these difficult times but some businesses like Marys do not deserve the support. If I could give a zero star rating I would. This worker or maybe it was the owner was truly unethical.

Mary’s Fish and Chips
We got Calamari w/ Creamy Thai Sweet Chili Sauce, and Halibut Chips & Greek Salad. Calamari came in a huge portion, it was crispy, the Squid was tender, and the Sauce was perfect for it! Halibut came in a big piece, fried to perfection, the Batter was thin, the Fish was juicy, flakey, the Chips were crispy, thick cut, upgraded Greek Salad had a wonderful dressing, it had Onion, Tomato, Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, and Olives, gosh it was fantastic!

I heard that they changed ownership not too long ago and there are good and bad reviews. We went for a late brunch around noon. We were warmly welcomed by waiters. The service is professional. Didn't expect the interior to be so local and historical. It was a surprise.We ordered the Mary's Benny, Turkey Bacon breakfast, and single pancake with peameal. We were the only table. The three orders took them quite a while, but you could tell they put effort into the dishes and everything came at the same time.Coffee was good. We had special requests for each order and everything was on point. Each ingredient has its own distinct flavor. The home fries were slightly undercooked but we liked that it was not too salty.Some downside I can think of is the oily smell when we waited for food, because the kitchen is right by the tables. Also the seats are a bit tight.

Thank you for the wonderful service and delicious food. The fish is fresh and the pasta is great. Today is my son's birthday, and they gave us a free cake and milkshake. What a surprise!

I must admit, I was hesitant to come after they changed from Danny’sButI’m glad I came in to try their halibut and chips.The halibut was huge, crispy and flavourful.Well done Mary’s fish and chips.I will even venture to say it was better than Danny’s (the previous owners).I thoroughly enjoyed my mealAndI will definitely be back again when I am in the area.Price wise, it was on the high end for 2 orders but then again where can you find a cheap fish and chips shop nowadays.It was still well worth it as the size of the Halibut and quality of the meal was overly satisfying.

The fish was good, but the chips were mediocre. There was only one person working, and he took our order and cooked our meals. We were the only table there, yet he never came to our table to check on us after serving us our plates.

Mary’s Fish and Chips
I've been hunting good fish and chips east of Markham for 20 years. Everything is just okay in Durham Region. I did a day trip from Courtice to Markham today and picked Mary's for lunch. The haddock was cooked perfectly. The chips were traditional and lightly seasoned meaning you decide if they need more salt. The coleslaw was dressed perfectly. They've perfected fish and chips on this side of the Atlantic. The portions are generous. I loved the gravy. The service is great. Highly recommend. I will be back.

Stopped by this spot with the family. Very quiet old school vibe. It was just me and my family that where there, which caught me off guard. So we sat down and the owner comes over and made us feel like home from the start. Whatever we needed he got us. When the food came out it was amazing I got the fish and chips and was cooked to perfection. Not a whole bunch of batter and less fish. My wife got the lamb burger which most places don't have. And my wife ate the whole thing which amazed me cause she never finishes her food. Lol my daughters sat and enjoyed. But what made it that much more special was that the owner was not satisfied even though we said it was great he made us more food just to make sure we were happy. That's really rare these days. All I know is that I'll be back again and again please go and check this place out. Can't go wrong at all and the prices are great too. But the service you can't put a price on that. Well done keep up the great work

Great food, exceptional service and classic diner environment.We've found this place by looking for the best fish and chips restaurant in Markham/Vaughn and out of half a dozen this place is the best.The cod, haddock and halibut fish and chips are always fresh (no fishy smell or taste) and the batter is usually light and crispy.Menu options listed below that we tried that were exceptionally great.- Egg Florentine Benny- Pancakes- Calamari- Jalapeno Burger- California Chicken Sandwich- Chicken ParmesanStaff/chefs are also very accommodating in regards to menu options. I was able to make the California chicken sandwich into a hot chicken sandwich that was delicious.Highly recommended for fish and chips as well as every item we've ordered from the menu was delicious.

This is a local restaurant that run by very few people. It is a local gems in my opinion.Most important for fish and chips is that you have to dine-in for a hot crispy fish and chip. Take out order is not going to do well in a container even for 5 minutes.Came here on Monday night and they are not busy for dine-in, but contently customer coming in.This is my first visit even this spot is open for at least 20 years if not longer. They just recently changed owner but the restaurant remains exactly the same (Except the name).Fish and chips is above average here in my opinion.Everything we order is really good and taste fresh.I recommend the butter chicken poutine, it was so good that we almost order a second order but we are too full to do so.Services is extremely good!!During my visit there is only one guy works there as a chef and server, but he manages to cook good food and keep us happy.You can tell by the decorations that the restaurant is open in the 80s but they keep it very clean.Our server (and chef) ask us to tell him what we like and what we don't like so he can remake it if needed. I really like that.You really cannot get any more local than this... LolBurger is good, fish and chips is good, chicken quesadilla is good.Not everything is perfect here but it just give me one of this family type of feel when I eat here. Feels like a every Sunday breakfast place with family or something.I will definitely return and try their breakfast items.Parking is not big so it can be a challenge during weekends.
