Hertz Car Rental - Victoria International Airport

My experience with Hertz was astonishingly appalling and I truly believe it was because of their manager, Arjun D. I was given a Hyundai Elantra, for a 3 day rental. Due to the Cameron Bluffs fire, my party ended up being stranded in Port Alberni where highway 4 was closed for over 2 weeks. We contacted Hertz asking what can be done about our contract because there is no possible way for us to get back. During the first 2 days of us calling, Arjun was not around to take calls, or to provide assistance to his staff and customers. However, his staff was instructed to suggest taking the alternative route, a logging road- where numerous vehicles were in serious accidents. We were then told that because there is an alternative route to get back, that we will still be charged full price and late fees for each day the car is not back. The alternative route was then closed, and Hertz was not offering any assistance in regards to our contract.It took over 10 phone calls to get ahold of Arjun, where he said he can take off $30/day. As per our contract, we were being charged $105.27/day.Being from out of province, we needed to get home and were granted permission to leave the rental parked at a trusted friend’s house; being charged $75.27/day to sit there. Unacceptable. After coordinating with another member on their team, he was able to get us $15/day. Our vehicle sat, unused, for 18 days.Arjun did not try to contact us, provide assistance, nothing. Arjun was defensive, careless, and provided no support for his customers.Budget wasn’t letting their vehicles take the alternative route…

I will never rent from Hertz again. Vehicle offered to me was not at all something I could drive and then of course I had to pay an upgrade fee for a different vehicle that ended up costing me $400 more than I planned. I couldn't not take what they offered as I needed a vehicles and there was a cancellation charge, I was at their mercy. When I tried to talk to management in person they weren't available and then phoning the company customer service is such a headache, constantly bounced between different people. Very disappointed they'd do this. I've never had this problem with any other car company. As well it's very annoying you can't easily change a rental online without calling in and then the total bill/receipt isn't provided unless you fill out a form. Get with the times and be more transparent.

2 people working no one at counter... 2 people have left and still no one at desk been over 15mins... would recommend renting from avis,budget or enterprise ALWAYS someone on the counter.

I would definitely not rent a car from here. We unfortunately got a chip in the windshield, I bought 3rd party insurance. I've been trying to get a hold of someone to give me the actual receipt for the work done but have gotten zero. Just a vague Hertz receipt that is insufficient for the claim. This is a big expense so if you don't want to risk losing $900 for damage you can't control, don't rent a car here.

I had a very poor experience renting from Hertz at this location. My family and I rented a vehicle in March 2023 and noticed significant damage to the exterior of the vehicle so I took photos just in case. Upon returning the vehicle and arriving home, Hertz accused my family of damaging the vehicle and wanted payment for the damage made. Luckily, we had timestamped photo evidence that the damage already existed.Had we not taken photos of the vehicle in advance, we would have had no proof that we did not damage the vehicle ourselves and it makes me question whether this is done repetitively in order to scam customers. Not only this, but providing a customer with a car that is an embarrassment to drive around is unprofessional and inappropriate. We received no sympathy or response for this accusation and want others to beware of renting from this place in future (or at least make sure to take photos first).

I rented a car in Vancouver May 3rd from Hertz rentalcar. I arranrged to pdrop it off on May9th at the Victoria International Airport. That is where all the problems started. I arrived at the airport at 11:15 am. There was no one in the Hertz booth but there was a note saying they would be back at 10:45 am. I started to write a note giving date, time, and mileage. AJ returned just as I was finishing the note. He asked me if there was any damage to the car I answered him honestly and said no. He did not check the car at this point. I asked him if there was anything else I needed to do. I left without paper work. TWO DAYS later I recieve a call from AJ he tells me that the wind shield is damaged. I told him that this was not possible. I said the damage must have happened in the 2 previous days. he basically alled me a liar in not so many words. I told him I would seek legal counsel. I called back 5 minutes later and got a hostile female worker, I asked for a picture of the odometer. She hung up on me. I waited 5 minutes and called back asking for a picture of the odometer reading and the contract. AJ was not customer friendly. I asked him for the head office number and he refused. I have never recieved a copy of the contract or the odometer reading. I wll never use Hertz or any of its related companies.These two people employed by Hertz are a disgrace. I own a buisness and would be mortified if any of my employes acted like this.

Gave me a car with a flat tire. Called road side assistance and they wanted me to drive to the US to get fixed. One of my worst experiences with Hertz and completely unacceptable.

RUN the other way!!! The guy at the Hertz counter basically scammed us for about $400.I called Hertz & after 4 hours with the 1-800 rep it still remains unresolved.To top it all off, my companion ended up in the ER so I needed to add my name to the policy. They could care less & wouldn't help me out.I will not rent from Hertz.I bet the response will be the same to poor reviews. It’s probably automated.

If I could give Hertz zero stars I would. I rented a vehicle in May for a trip to see a few friends on the island two in the city and the other in Tofino. Everything seemed fine while I was driving in the city (under 70km/hour), but as soon as I got on the highway I noticed the car would start vibrating and bouncing. At first I thought maybe it was the road but soon realized it was the car itself. The vibrating would cut in and out in the speeds between 70-110 and the shaking would intensify. I stopped to ensure that my lug nuts were okay and the tires weren't going to fall off... Or something along those lines. Since it's a 4 hour drive it was a LONG drive there and back with this issue, I have expressed my concerns with the safety of this vehicle at the return counter and even contacted the customer service line because the counter did not seem to believe me or care of the issues I had with the car. Customer service hasn't been helpful either, my concerns have fallen on deaf ears and they informed me that the car has been rented out twice since me. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the service I have received and shocked to hear that I'm SOL. I recommend using a rental company that actually cares about concerns and their safety for renters. Use another company...saving twenty bucks isn't worth it.

They first offered me TESLA as an eco friendly option. It turned out to be a distaster - my car didn't charge!! Took us two days to find out, and in order to switch my car to Toyota (so reliable!!!) we had to cancel the most exquisite dinner 4 hours away!! The agent at this counter took off the extra fee for the eco (the least she could do). We still missed once in a lifetime visit to the restaurant in the middle of the Vancouver Island. They should not use the car with issues - the Hertz failed on that, big time.
