Great equipment and great customer service to back it up. Bought a used system that was theirs, and they had all the records on it. Easy to get parts for when needed. Upgraded to new facility and brewhouse. They helped us design the space for optimal efficiency, installed and setup the platform and tanks, and are/were super responsive to our needs as we've grown. Highly recommend their equipment. Staff have been great to work with.

KC Bier Co was a start up when we opened in 2014. Specific was very helpful in designing the system that would fulfill our mission of brewing authentic German-style bier, with lagers making up more than 85% of our production. We wanted a traditional German-style brewhouse that could perform step and decoction mashing with higher water-to-grist mashes than was typical for ale brewers. Specific also set up a traditional 2-tank lager cellar with dedicated fermenters and lagering tanks, including 3-bar rated ASME tanks to allow all of our bier to be naturally carbonated. Specifics origional design provided for expansion flexibility that allowed us to add a second steam-jacketed kettle to our brewers platform that allowed us to complete 3 daily brews in the same time period in which we could only complete 2 prior to the expansion. We wanted to ferment cold, and Specific provided an over-sized cold liquor tank and a plate & frame heat exchanger that easily allows us to knock out at 8 Celsius, or colder. As we grew our production and style offerings, they provided additional tanks, a yeast brink, and even a custom designed combo yeast brink/hop rocket to produce our dry-hopped Mandarina IPL. Specific doesn't just build generic cookie-cutter systems, they worked with us to produce a genuine, traditional German brewhouse and cellar that has produced numerous award-winning German bier styles. Their stainless steel has been durable, the welds solid, and the entire system has run reliably with only normal maintenance required. The customer service has been responsive, polite, and freindly , as you would expect from our Canadian neighbors :) .

We have bought dozens of fermenters, several Bright tanks and our new brewhouse from Specific and have always been impressed with their quality and customer service. Highly recommended.

From my first email with Chad to my last conversation with Derek, SpecMech has more than met my expectations, they've surpassed them by leaps and bounds.Front end consultation was thorough and done in a timely fashion. They made sure they were clear as to what they could deliver and all items were priced out on the quote (there were no surprise charges and extra materials that I needed to purchase after the equipment arrived and was installed). They updated me to production progress and even delivered the equipment ahead of schedule. Post production support was amazing and I'm sure Derek was tired of hearing from me, but he never once made me feel like he was! I can honestly say that all of my distillery purchases in the future will go to specmech, and congratulations to the team, great job!

I have purchased a brewhouse, dozens of fermenters and brite tanks, as well as specialized yeast handling equipment from Specific Mechanical over many years. I am always more than satisfied with their workmanship, their willingness to include my ideas into their design, and their professionalism. Not only that, but they are a bunch of great people! I fully intend to continue working closely with Specific Mechanical long into the future.

Since I got an email prompting me to do this almost five years after building out a brewery with all their equipment, here you go. Hopefully things have improved in the last several years.It was like pulling teeth to get things designed as needed and felt like whomever was designing it was their first time—didn’t seem to understand the needs of the modern brewer. I made the mistake of relying on them to execute my design requests and should have triple checked everything for myself. Brew stand and associated hardware not as sturdy and well constructed as other brewhouses I’ve work on. Pumps never worked well with the design and would cavitate all the time on the brewhouse—not great on a 4-vessel system. Was sold on a faster turnaround, but ended up being the same as a company known for better quality equipment and I preferred to go with. I just expected better for the money. I liked their keg washer better than some others though. Overall had better experiences since with other brewery equipment manufacturers. I find most reviews, especially very glowing positive reviews on the cheaper side of the spectrum, for brewery equipment manufacturers tend to come from people who haven’t worked in the industry prior to starting a brewery or have dealt with a lot of different equipment in their careers. My review may seem harsh, but it was my experience then. Plus going on over 30 years dealing with all sorts of things of a mechanical nature, I’ve seen companies that come up with a design and don’t change it until there are pressures from competition, rather than pushing themselves internally to always improve on everything they do whether people ask for it or not. If you’ve noticed, most Specific Mechanical brewhouses look the same and have evolved very little over the years, but I guess innovation comes at a cost, so you get what you pay for. There’s another early Canadian manufacturer in the smaller scale brewery world that lived by this until finally forced to improve their moderately functional design. Man did I hate working with those canning lines.

We at Big River Grille & Brewing Works bought our first (of many) Specific Mechanical brewery 26 years ago when we opened our second brewpub. We are still brewing on it which I consider not only a testimony to their quality as a manufacturer, but also to their customer service. We can rely on Specific to help problem solve or provide any part (quickly) when we find ourselves in a pinch. Because of that, we look forward brewing another 26 years on the same system!
