Hertz Car Rental - Calgary International Airport

The car shook violently as soon as we drove out of the pick up point (Calgary Airport) & onto the highway. We had to proceed by driving very slowly (fearing that it could be a safety issue) to Canmore as we were very much delayed (past midnight) for check-in due to the flight delays to Calgary & the airport outlet was closed. The shaking of the car never stopped.We called Hertz Helpline in the morning (01 May 2023), asked for a replacement, but to no avail because the nearest Hertz outlets in Banff & Lake Louise only open 2 days later (Wed, 03 May 2023) and the Calgary Airport outlet informed that they have no replacement of similar size, we couldn't use a smaller car as we had 4 big luggages and 4 cabin size luggages on top of backpacks, & we had to drive to Lake Louise the same day (01 May 2023) to check in to the hotel booked.Eventually, Arin (Hertz's staff) found a workshop in an industrial area of Banff, we drove to the workshop (at Eagle Crescent), left the car there, walked a distance to take a bus to Banff town. After 3 hours, we bought bus tickets again to get back to the workshop. We were told that it was the wheel balancing issue that made the car shook violently. While we were relieved that we could proceed with our journey in the Rockies, we were utterly unhappy with Hertz for issuing a faulty car and not providing adequate service, causing us much distress having to drive the violently shaking car especially in the wee hours, and disrupting our holiday plans as we had to detour to the workshop which cost us time and money.On returning the car at Vancouver (Granville), we told the staff we wanted compensation from Hertz for the distress & disruption, the staff said that they couldn't help us as it was Sunday (07 May 2023) and the Manager was not at the office. We requested that the manager must call us back the next day (08 May 2023) to settle this issue, & informed Hertz staff that we will be flying out of Vancouver early morning of 09 May 2023. We never received any call from Hertz.We chose Hertz over Thrifty & Enterprise due to advertisements, now we know Hertz's advertisements are seriously deceitful.I'd give 5 negatives XXXXX if I could.

This is the first review I have written. I rented a vehicle here last week for our trip to Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. While the vehicle was clean and available with our reservation, returning the car was a terrible experience due to the employees’/management’s incompetence with answering the phone. After our return flight was cancelled and rescheduled days later, my sister and I called at least 15 times collectively over two days wanting to confirm our new return process and ensure we did not get charged a fee. Every time we called, the line would ring a couple of times and then would end with no response. With no way to contact them, we ended up having to drive out of our way to the airport to speak to someone in person at the desk there. There were two employees there, and no other customers waiting in line. I explained that I had been trying to speak with someone for two days and had been calling every few hours. I asked if maybe we had the wrong number, or if there was a problem with their phone, only to be given no explanation, and a meager apology. The total lack of available communication and remorse for their mistake added so much unnecessary stress and frustration to the tail end of our vacation. I would highly discourage anyone from renting here, and would encourage renting from one of the other available companies available at the Calgary airport.

Booked a car for a specific time. Told we had to wait 20mins as it wasn’t available yet… 1 hour later and still no car and no help or updates provided… 0 customer care/service qualityUpdate: 90mins later and still no update. Just “I’ll check and let you know”… And wanders off…

Very friendly staff. Got the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022 with only 3600km on it as recommended by the staff. Was not disappointed with the selection. The jeep was in amazing condition. The process was very smooth. They just need your credit card and driver's license. You sign some paperwork and you're on you're way out. All the car rentals are located on the opposite side of gate#6. You take the elevator to the 2nd floor where all the car rentals are at. When we returned our car it literally took less than 2mins as everything was automated. The person just told us to take our luggage and confirmed the details. I got the electronic receipt in my email within 5mins.After about a month I got charged $177.50 from Hertz. Called them to inquire about this. After a long hold they simply said it was due to a traffic violation. When asked for more details they couldn't provide me any and transferred me to the ticket handling department in the USA. They had no clue as they only dealt with tickets in USA and told me to call customer service. I have been in a nonstop loop with them to get details on this but to no avail. I haven't gotten any letters or emails informing me about the change and their customer service team seems useless. Very disappointed after getting a good service.

Easy check in and out. Their mid size car is not really a mid size car it was very very small. Not happy about that.

The category of car we reserved was not available so we were given an upgrade" to a minivan. Although it was very comfortable it led to higher gas cost for our touring. Additionally and most annoying

It was convenient since it is located at the Calgary airport. When we arrived our car was not there. We waited for some time and were eventually on our way. They struggled to assist many customers that day. I'm not sure why. They need better signage at the airport when returning the vehicle. A Hertz sign would be nice when you're returning the vehicle.

Thelma at Hertz Rental Car in Calgary Airport provided excellent service! Despite the long lineup, it's wonderful that she promptly assisted us and even upgraded the rental. Thelma's efficiency and the pleasant upgrade definitely contributed to a positive experience.
