Candlewood Suites Kingston West, an IHG Hotel

Will bump you for an extra buck! I am a member of another loyalty program and would have booked with them, except we were coming into town for a funeral and wanted to be close to our family.I called the hotel directly to book because I am travelling with three kids and wanted to ensure we could get a single room that could accommodate my family of five. I provided my credit card information and received a confirmation number.Two days before check-in, I received an email saying that there were no longer any 2 queen bed rooms available. My options were to either accept a room with one king size bed, or be moved to a lower-tier hotel nearby, with no pool (which is one of my must-haves when going to a hotel). I was reluctant to be separated from my party but at that point hotels were booked up (due to a hockey tournament) and preferred to have somewhere to sleep rather than nowhere. The staff dealing with this were kind and I acknowledge that they threw in trampoline passes for the kids and gave us a preferential rate, to attempt to mitigate the inconvenience.The hotel we got bumped or walked" to was showing its age

We stayed here 3 days. The rooms were super clean. The front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Staff was cleaning the hotel all day long. The breakfast had a lot of choices. We enjoyed the cool pancake machine. The staff in the breakfast area was also very friendly and willing to help when needed. We came prepared to swim but never did use the pool. We liked the motorized blinds in the room and how dark it made it. I usually put a comment about something that was not good because I always look for that in the comments to know that the review was real. This time I do not have anything negative to say. It was well worth the price and I would stay here again.

Very clean, breakfast was good, complimentary coffee/tea all day long. Pool is nice, a bit smaller/shallow but clean and nice still. Staff are very nice and accommodating. We arrived early and they quickly arranged a room for us. Seating area is spread out very nicely throughout main floor and very convenient. Gym room is nice too. They even have a little convenience market and laundry on site. Location is in a bit of an industrial area but if you have a car it’s no problem. Will definitely recommend and stay here again in future. Thank you to all staff for their hard work.

Very clean rooms, except a few carpet stains and not sure how often the front flooring area is cleaned? I spilled some water and wiped with a Kleenex, pretty dirty. Beds very comfy and great black out shades. Rooms have microwave as well as fridge which is great.Pool is quite small, but a decent covered outdoor space with tables and chairs. Front desk staff very helpful.We did have one issue as a long time “resident” of the hotel assaulted (punched her in the jaw for no reason as she walked by him)the mother of one of our soccer players! That was very unnerving as 3 teen girls clubs were staying over this weekend. The hotel should have security to prevent these incidents as the front desk was not well equipped. The soccer dads had to monitor this patron until police arrived.Really too bad as it is a nice hotel that you wouldn’t expect this to happen.
