1million litres, 65 foot drop, smashing lock staff...what's not to rave about?

Take the kids to learn about the historic locks of Canada. You can visit the power plant or just bring a picnic as there is lots of area to stop eat and play outside. You can go to the top on one of the highest historic locks in Quebec and see boats as they rise or lower in the locks to continue traveling up or down the Ottawa river.

Very beautiful river and this is the largest water lock I've ever seen. The wait time is about an hour to fill the basin. The lift and drop is almost not noticeable while its happening as its very smooth and the dock you moor to floats up and down the walls of the locks, very cool and amazing engineering. Its something we should all see as Canadians and appreciate the heritage and efforts our forefathers and mothers had to endure to move foods to and from the ocean to our nations capital.

Interesting and unique place. 20 m lock is really impressing. Nice picnic area near the canal.

Underrated location with a considerable amount of history. Staff are bilingual and the dam itself is pet friendly. If you have time to kill between Ottawa and Montreal head up to this area and you will not be disappointed.

It was a good excursion and we enjoyed seeing the dam and the lock, which apparently is the highest lock in Canada. Good day trip and a great place to have a picnic.
