The Family Psychology Place

We had an excellent experience with LeighAnne (et all) at The Family Psychology Place. Our 8 year old daughter was treated with care and assessed for learning disabilities. This process is an important step in receiving help/funding/modified programming within the school system and for further tutoring and education. Thank you for your thorough report writing and suggested learning modifications. We will recommend others to come here!

While the actual psychological assistance for a family assessment was conducted well enough, we perceived a lack of integrity from the administration and feel that there was purposeful and probable lying regarding billing.Furthermore, when we asked for a number or contact to the Alberta College of Psychology to voice concerns the administration staff refused to disclose who we could talk to. In fact they outright seemed to prevent us from filing a complaint.Trust is important. If I can’t trust a group to be truthful, show integrity or be transparent…then there is no way I’m trusting them to help my kids.

Had a psycho-educational assessment done for one of our children. We had excellent rapport with Angela R. Our child had a good experience throughout the meetings. In the end we received a detailed and comprehensive report that enables us to effectively advocate for our child.

We had a very bad experience which has left us spending $2000 and nothing to show for it.Very poor communication from the Psycologist from the start about costs and treatment sessions needed, then when I inquired more information, I wasn’t given a straight answer. I emailed back and forth with reception which then resulted in a complete stop of communication from the team. I followed up again with a phone call to reception (multiple times I asked to speak to the office manager or the Psycologist to clear things up and was denied)I was told they would get back to me and again, I was completely dismissed.After weeks, I did get to contact the office manager which then told me if I want the assessment for my daughter (which we spent months coming to appointments) it would costs $1200 ON TOP of the multiple sessions still needed (another almost $1000) never mind the money we’ve already spent (another $1000)Apparently, the owners have spoken and there is nothing they are willing to do on their end. Even though their company is responsible for the lack of transparency and providing me with correct communication.The sad part is, my daughter is the one who is suffering from this. The one who needed to be taken care of and we trusted they would treat us the way anyone deserves to be treated. But unfortunately, I should have read the reviews prior to coming as it looks like money is the top priority for them.I would not recommend this place. For the sake of your family, look elsewhere.

Waited 4 months for our next appointment with Melissa Clark (who is more than worth the wait and the ONLY reason we came to this office). Family psychology sent reminder emails and texts confirming the appointment leading up to it and then called the day before to say ‘ as you probably already know, Melissa Clark is no longer here and your appointment has been canceled’. I had no idea she’d started her own practice - how would I??? Melissa had been gone for months and they chose to wait until the day before the appointment to call. So Rude.

I wanted to share our positive experience with this place and Dawn Bremner, the psychologist.We brought our son for assessment to clarify if he meets the criteria for gifted kids program. Dawn Bremner explained to us the whole process and clarified about the payments. Our son liked her from the first visit and mentioned that she was very patient and understanding. After 3 appointments she let us know about our results and we moved forward.At the end of the story, we were provided with a detailed report about our son's abilities and that was our goal.Our personal experience with the Family Psychology Place and Dawn Bremner was completely positive and we will recommend her in person 100% for further reference.

It is so refreshing to have kind and patient people to talk to when calling a clinic, the person I spoke with was extremely helpful in providing information to me as well as when booking an appointment. Very satisfied with the overall process of my visit!

We have been coming here for years and recommend them highly. The assessments are definitely the best in the city. That's what our doctor and school said, and we agree. The counseling has been great, really helpful for all of us. If you need help, skip the little offices and just come here.

I just wanted to make a comment about the amazing help I’ve received from The Southport Family Psychology Place. My therapist Melissa Channon has been amazing. From my first consultation when I met her in May of this year, she recognized exactly what it was I needed with empathy and confidence and continues to provide me with the tools, support and guidance I need in each session. Every appointment I’ve had with her, I’ve left and continue to leave with a feeling of encouragement and trust. I can’t thank her enough for the incredible help she’s given me.I’d also like to comment on the front desk staff. Right from the first day I called, they made me feel very comfortable. And this continues every time I have a question or schedule my appointments. They’re the first I see when I come in and the last I see when I exit and I always leave with a smile because of their professionalism and kindness. They always make me feel my well-being is a priority and they do what they can to help. I have nothing but heartfelt gratitude for Melissa Channon and all the staff I’ve interacted with at the Southport Family Psychology Place. Thank you to all. :)

Charged me a whole bunch of money to assess my son and the result was so far off from my child I likely would have got more for my money if I took him to get his horoscope read. Our psychologist, Sarah, met him once, and in my experience with her, I assume she is on the spectrum herself. I feel like I could have done a psychological assessment myself on her. Horrible experienceEveryone I've spoken to since feels like we wasted a lot of money and time as my son is perfectly socially integrated once he got q bit older. Dont waste your time
