Ultimate Martial Arts Academy

We started our 2 children in the 6 week special to see if they would enjoy it and want to continue. They both loved it and are continuing on. The instructors are all very nice and knowledgeable and encouraging. If someone is struggling, they help and correct in a positive manner. Now, my kids want to become black belts!

Our family has been attending classes at UMA-Ham Lake for 6 yrs. Our oldest son started when he was 8 yo, then our younger 2 kiddos joined, followed my husband & I! We were drawn to Master Olson’s amazing teaching, his uncanny ability to discern the various learning styles of each of us, and his consistent standards of excellence. Master Olson is able to draw out the absolute best in us and has a genuine sense of care for all his students. On top of all the learning that occurs, it is a great workout! Thank you UMA for all that you’ve provided and continue to provide for our family!

Both my two sons and I have trained at this school and I can honestly say that it has been an amazing experience to be trained by such a dedicated master instructor. We are being trained by a true hall of fame martial artist with a passion for self-defense and quality martial arts. I believe that the worst thing that a student can be given is a false sense of confidence in their ability to defend themselves. That is why this is a school that demands quality and pushes each students to be there very best. If you are looking for a school that will give top level training to prepare you or your child to have the skills and confidence to deal with whatever live brings your way then this is the school for you.Great people and an amazing instructor.

UMA Ham Lake is an amazing karate studio. Master Olson and Mrs. Olson are wonderful instructors and wonderful people who treat you like family! Karate is so much more than kicks and punches, at UMA you are taught respect, accountability, pride, discipline and so much more. Karate is a life long skill you can carry and learn for your entire life and I couldn't ask for better instructors than the Olson's! Yes this is a great place for everyone. My 8 year old daughter did a trial for a few weeks as she is a dancer not a fighter. But she eneded up loving the instructors and that led to her loving karate and the whole idea behind it.

Master Olson and his staff are outstanding instructors. They provide excellent instruction, guidance, leadership, and mentorship to their students, and truly care about their student's success. My daughter has gained a lot of self confidence, self control, and self discipline since becoming a student at UMA-Ham Lake. I would highly recommend this martial arts academy.

I love their set up inside! It is not only a big area, but is has excellent seating for viewing as a parent. I love the class flexibility/variety of different class days and times! If something comes up one week in our normal schedule we are able to switch a day! The two coaches both do a great job, they maintain the importance of defense through out class and I honestly thought my daughters attitude would have come out by now :p ; but hands down she loves it and she can’t wait to go back after each class! We just finished our trial and will be signing up for regular classes!

We started both of our boys (8yo and 6yo) with the 6 week trial, which I felt was a good time to really get a feel for how it was going. Grand Master John Olson is phenomenal with communicating before, during, and after the trial. You can really tell how much effort is put into this program and the students. I love the teaching style and they are firm, but caring with a couple of good one liners here and there! The facilities are always clean and up kept. I enjoy seeing the mutual respect between the staff and students. I look forward to spending a year here watching my kids grow physically and mentally. I could not recommend this enough whether you are a child or an adult!

We are very happy with the instruction and professionalism at UMA. Our son is learning a lot about discipline and respect. We have also seen his confidence increase!
