Northern Credit Union

I have several accounts at different banks, business accounts and personal and I was going to get my son his own account. I've dealt with every main bank - even Tangerine, and I figured we would go with the credit union route so my son could build a relationship with his bank.The Northern Credit union is the closest credit union to our place so I called to set up an appointment. No answer, asked to leave a voice mail that they will respond to within a business day.I hung up and figured it'd probably be easier to just go there which I did. When I went in, there were no customers I could see but there were two tellers hanging out behind one's desk showing each other pics or whatever.The one teller acknowledges me and I ask if I could make an appointment to set up an account for my kid. She tells me she can't accommodate the time I'm asking for because they don't typically set up appointments between 11AM and 2PM. I think my face said it all at that point. I asked lunches?" And with this soft voice she says "yeah".I'm sorry my needs don't meet YOUR time requirements #NorthernCreditUnion. I literally walked out in disbelief at how ridiculous their customer service is

Staff are very helpful and friendly but not impressed with services

This financial institution charged me $300 to discharge my mortgage, which the max that can be charged. The actual fee is $65.30, leaving them a tidy $235 profit above what they made on interest. Enjoy the $235, but you're going to cry when my rather substantial inheritance comes in and you don't see a penny of it except to cash the cheque.

The Northern Credit Union is truly Northern and members have the opportunity to be involved in the operations and community building with the support of the corporate office. Very hard to get a hold of staff. Extremely difficult to do business with. Would not recommend. Very slow to respond to customers needs.
