Cataraqui Pet Hospital

Having had good service in the past I took my ageing dog with stiff and sore hips to Cataraqui Pet Hospital. I was angered and shocked at the terrible service I received. Total scammers! I arrived 15 mins early for my appointment. The secretary said she would “get me right in”. Well, I did not get in to see the doctor until 20 minutes after my appointment time. The doctor did not even tell me her name and she went straight to the computer across the room from my cowering baby. She began asking questions as she began to upsell me for further vaccines, shots, tick meds (in the winter), bloodwork, and dog food. I stopped her part way through to ask the cost. By that time is was nearly $500. I told her that I couldn’t possibly afford that. I told her I had $150 on me and maybe about $100 on my credit card. After more grappling and me saying no to multiple upsells. We settled on an exam and a test for Lyme disease. Finally, the doctor approached my petrified pooch briefly, before getting a helper to hold her still. After watching them dance around my dog for a bit I offered that if they would feel safer they could muzzle her. Which they did. They were so nervous that my dog was acting unusually afraid, mirroring their fear. The doctor listened to her heart, felt her glands, stretched out her front and back legs. Then they left the room to fetch another staff member to draw blood and left her with the muzzle on, which caused my dog to panic. So I had to remove the muzzle. The doctor and two others came in and asked me to leave the room. I’m no crazy pet person either. I spent three years working at a pet hospital. Which is how I knew she was up selling me services and products I didn’t need or want. Remember we came in because my dog’s back hips were sore and stiff. Finally, it was time to pay and after waiting for one of two less-than-clever secretaries to finish my bill, the doctor came out and tried to upsell me one more time with a special diet food. The moral of this story: Beware. Educate yourself about pet care and don’t get scammed by these guys. $270 later they didn’t even trim her nails! Avoid Dr. Jacquline Cote

After having poor experience with vets in the past and trying to heal from a sudden and traumatic death of a pet a few months ago, i’ve been very hesitant and anxious when taking my 2 new kittens to any veterinarian. I couldn’t be most happy that I came here for their spay/neuter. They provided me with the most respect, kindness and comfort. They really took the time to make sure I was informed on things going on. A few days prior, I had taken my kittens to a different vet and received no treatment/help for their ongoing needs, Cataraquai Pet Hospital made sure I left with nothing less than the best care. I need to make a special mention about Erin (I believe i’m spelling her name right) She deserves to be praised and to no end. Ive never met someone so kind. I could tell from the moment she spoke that she was educated, understanding and genuinely cared for my animals. I called the following day after the surgeries to ask a question, I spoke to someone other than erin. Hours later I received a voicemail personally from erin asking a variety of questions about my kittens well being - how they were eating, how the cones were working out and so much more. The way she treated my kittens and I made me feel like we were her #1 priority. I am so grateful for the opportunity to put my faith back into vets and have much less anxiety for my future appointments. I highly recommend this vet and hope that’s others get to experience the top level of care I received.

In my opinion Cataraqui Pet Hospital is dangerous and would feel even more horrible if I didn't tell others my opinion on this clinic. I have been a client of theirs for over a decade and just in recent years I have had nothing but awful experiences with my family. A vet tech of theirs hurt one of my fur babies and cut his quick while under sedation and did not inform me or my family that this happened. We brought him home like this only to see he was bleeding from his paw profusely and saw his quick had clearly been cut. After arguing on the phone we finally got the truth that a vet tech had done this by accident and his next visit we would not pay for. We then made it clear this tech is not to ever be touching our fur babies ever again. We decided to let it go and continue with their care as I have been at that clinic for a very long time. Just recently however after spending thousands and thousands of dollars on another one of our babies who required surgery the exact same vet tech decided it was a great idea to block me and my partner in the handicapped parking area out front of her workplace with her husband. As they drove away after blocking our vehicle both of them gave us the middle finger. At this point we took it up with the manager as we feel highly discriminated against after spending so much money on our poor fur baby. Even then we were not taken seriously and did not respond to us quickly about this incident and ultimately we cannot trust this clinic any further. In my opinion I would avoid this clinic unless you want your fur babies being hurt, being lied to,being disrespected and mistreated because you are apart of minority.

The staff are always great to deal with but I especially want to give a shout out to Dr. Lawless. She is an amazing vet and we are lucky to have found her to look after our best buddy the last couple years. She is an asset to Cataraqui Pet Hospital and any patients she treats are in great hands.

Absolutely recommend this vet place for Kingston pets :) They’re honest with their prices and forthcoming with reasonable and feasible solutions to your pet’s ailment without preying on your vulnerability. I have three pets I’ve been taking here the last couple years and I definitely recommend.

I love Cataraqui Pet Hospital. Bentley, our Pomeranian has been with them since the day we brought him home over 11 years ago now. They are always caring' supportive and take the time to listen to any concerns I might have. I can't imagine going anywhere else!!

Horrible experience - my mother, a client for 25+ years, had to have her feline best friend euthanized. An invoice totaling $1,000, along with the debit/credit machine, was presented in the exam room just before the procedure. This included a $285 'emergency consultation' fee for bringing the cat in during normal business hours. The invoice also included $400 for a private cremation that was NOT agreed to. This is how one of the best and most responsible pet owners I know, and a loyal client who has always paid her vet bills, has been treated! Very unprofessional, callous and no empathy or compassion.

I have had multiple negative experiences with one staff member and receptionist. Contacted management to resolve and are now being 'helped' to leave. Goes to show that years with a place means nothing and it's a shame as they have some great people.
