St. John's Norway Anglican Church
NOTE: I am a parishioner and may have some biases. Come and see for yourself.During COVID-19 the church continues with Zoom services, pre-recorded services and 10-person Wednesday Eucarists. Special Christmas programs are planned including a nativity scene with live annimals.Anglican churches can vary greatly depending on the needs of the congregation. Some churches like St John's continue to offer traditional worship using the Book of Alternative Services . Some have described this as High Anglican, but to me that means 'bells and smells' (incense and bell ringing during the Eucharist) and we don't have that. Most attendees agree that the major attraction is the music. We have a recently installed, new-to-us organ and a choir master that does a small recital after the 10:30 service. The choir is excellent and if you arrive early you can enjoy the rehearsal. This was the first Anglican church in the area and as such has a large and historic cemetery attached (Sarah Ashbridge is buried there). The brick church building itself may appear rather plain but once inside you can get a peak at some amazing stained glass, old wooden pews and a small display of our history on the walls.I recommend our church highly and you will receive a warm welcome.ACCESSIBILITY: There are accessible ramps on the north and south sides. The north side has a large parking lot, a new ramp, electric doors and a lift to all three levels. There is an accessible washroom in the lower level.

OK! I'm a choir and hand chime member, so probably biased.....But I have to say I was warmly welcomed when I first set foot here about five years ago. The people could not be warmer or more sincere. The worship style is Broad Church, with a mixture of high and moderate congregants. Our new rector has instituted a flexible program including very important children and youth ministries led by two senior theology students, training for ordination. The entire service is printed out in the bulletin, so no need to juggle a hymn book, a Bible and the liturgy. It's really easy to participate. People sometimes stand as they are able, or can sit or kneel as they choose. There is an elevator connecting all the floors.Services are invariably no longer than one hour. Sermons are short and to the point. The music includes very traditional hymns, but the choir sings some tuneful modern compositions. Our hand chime choir" performs in Advent and Lent. This is a place to "come and see" if you are questioning your life and want to feel you belong and are valued."

I have been going to St John's Norway, since age 8. I'm 65 now. I have to say, not every Sunday, but as often as I can.

Wonderful church, the interior is absolutely stunning with bright window stain art. The culture and history of the church is so well displayed. Friendly and charming members of the community, so welcoming. The service room is large and accommodating for all, beautiful bench seats. They offer a drop in food bank on Mondays for those local to the community, please consider contributing to their food bank should you be fortunate enough to share.
