Bonavista Puffin & Whale Tours

Definitely not a day I'll ever forget as it truly felt like a near death experience. High winds, crazy waves, a boat that was near going under, unprofessional captain and crew (Dermot Hickey & Barry Rumbot), screaming/crying guests, vomit everywhere (all 6 buckets in full use), lots of injuries and civilians were thrown around like dolls, zero training on life jackets, and lots of injury. As a mother, wife and a professional I felt that we were all entirely taken advantage of. Not only was the trip not cancelled due to weather warnings, the captain was resistant to turn around until the guests reached a point of screams, threats and hostility - likely all in the name of making money. Shame On You! To end this review I will say that Newfoundland was a great experience for us torontonians, however this organization should be put out of business and never be allowed to take civilians out on the water. We've done our part by reporting them and writing reviews. I hope no one else has to envision the possibilities of Death in the ocean on a cold, stormy June day. *Tried posting images of the injuries that were incurred, however for some reason wouldn't post

We had a very scary and horrible experience with this tour. The waters were quite rocky early on, we saw a whale early but the waters were getting very violent and the captain requested we go back on deck.It wasn't long before we were all sea sick and passing around the puke buckets.Despite everyone being sick and children and elderly being thrown off from their seat, the captain felt it was a good idea to continue on to chase icebergs. It didn't take long before we all yelled to take us back and things turned to the worse, with passengers getting injured, several screaming and there were no hand rails to hold on to. The life jackets came out and many didn't know how to put them on.It was a poor decision on the part of the captain who is also the owner. Put many people's lives in danger when everyone would have been happy to cut the trip short right after our first whale watch.

Great experience, saw whales puffins and had a really nice time. Boat is simple and safe, captain and skipper know the area like back of their hand. Highly recommend.

A whale of a time!!! Great sightings and the captain and crew were fantastic. A lot of oh my gosh moments. Highly recommend.

These are good people. They were patient with a family who was running late, considerate of an elderly couple, and invited kids to take turns steering the boat, all while being friendly and informative. We came in early July and were treated to loads of puffins and so many humpback whales. What an adventure!

A nice boat tour with amazing tour operators. They were witty and funny during the trip to keep us entertained. I am thankful to them for waiting for us as we were a bit late to join the 10am trip. They called and took our confirmation. I really liked this gesture. Again whale watching completely depends on your luck so we were unlucky on that part. However we did see the puffins and an ancient iceberg that came floating from Greenland. Would definitely recommend this tour and suggest Carry your luck to spot the whales.

This was a great tour with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. We saw lots of whales with many who jumped out of the water and were slapping their fins and tails. It was hard to capture all the action since the boat was rocking pretty good, but we definitely got our money's worth.

Very knowledgeable guide and very funny! Would definitely go again. We saw puffins and an iceberg. Coming from BC the iceberg was amazing to see! No whales, but for us it wasn’t a big deal at all. Amazing trip!

Great tour. Worth every penny. Very nice staff. They gave us the option of picking one iceberg out of 2, since they were in opposite direction. Most of us chose iceberg near kings cove, since it was comparatively much bigger than the other. One hour ride took us near that and we spent time circling the iceberg so that everybody gets the opportunity to have the pictures taken. Really enjoyed the tour. The tour took more than 2 hours. It was too early for the whales. So, no whales were spotted. They told us in the beginning.
