190 Smith Apartment Suites

I am a newcomer to Canada from Ukraine and 190 Smith St. in Winnipeg is my first rental property (and a beautiful one too) in the country. And I have to say that I am a happy camper. Everything went smooth from the moment I first contacted the property management of the above-mentioned building, namely Sarah Nabess. She has been very helpful guiding me through the stormy sees of the application process and later with a personal assistance regarding the move-in, rental payments and minor maintenance. At the moment, I am enjoying a scenic view of downtown Winnipeg while chatting to a friend of mine using high-speed Internet also provided by the building.190 Smith Street Winnipeg is a perfect place for those who value downtown living, proximity to sport and entertainment facilities, bars and restaurants as well as modern ambience of a vibrant city.

We're very pleased with the whole experience, Management has been really nice to us, especially Sarah Nabess, who helped us through all the procedures, from renting to moving and finally living here. We never thought renting a place while living abroad was even possible, but Thorwin's agents made it happen. The apartments are beautiful, We really like that the building is pet friendly and how everything Downtown has to offer is within walking distance, We'd love to live here for a long time.

Great building and location close to my downtown work. I have been living here for 5 months. There is a good variety of in building amenities, it's close museums, the arena, the Forks and the exchange district. So lots to do if you like to go out. Also, it's quiet in the evenings and on the weekends which is great for me, who is a bit of home body. Recently, I decided I wanted to change units to have different amenities. Debbie, the property manager, has been fantastic and very responsive through the whole process and answered every one of my questions. I was able to change lease agreements in a matter of days and move in to my new place starting the following month. I want to thank the whole team, especially Debbie, Sarah, and Kendra for making me feel welcome! They really work with you to ensure you have a great experience.

I wanted to rent an apartment in this building, I found the building on Google maps and went down to the reviews and comments, so the residents express specific opinions or comments to the building managers, but for some reason, none of the staff gives a meaningful and reasoned answer, they only write the standard ones (we are sorry this is heard, call us to resolve this issue), it makes me suspicious. If a person leaves the building and leaves a negative review, should he still call you? From all of the above, do you generally aim for a personal approach to clients or just a banal pumping out of money?

Definitely not as pictured- lighting is extremely dull, management is unbothered, dog park is never cleaned and people here don’t pick up after their pets- its smelly!It gets extremely hot during summer and they almost kill tenants with heat during winter- just a half opening window available in entire suite which only helps when its windy outside- elevators are old and super dirty- door don’t even open on some floors!

Lived here for two years and the building continuously got worse over that time. I couldn't wait to move out.The dog park is a disaster. No one cleans up after their pets. People have mean dogs and think they own the park.At least half of the laundry machines are always broken. People leave laundry in the machines that do work well past the time the load is over, making finding a clean and working machine a headache.The elevators are always broken. At least once a week one elevator breaks. And to make matters worse the cleaning staff stops the elevators around 8 AM each morning to vacuum the rugs, making the wait even longer.Have spoke to residents who have had their cars broken into and witnessed some people cutting open the bike locker and stealing bikes. Management seemed unbothered when we brought this to their attention.People have gotten into the building and security has been unable to track them down.The fire alarm goes off so often I just started to ignore it.Had a pipe burst in the ceiling that was leaking down the wall and making our apartment floor wet. Again management seemed unbothered by it and it took days for a plumber to come fix it.During my move out inspection the guy was on his hands and knees looking for marks in the walls he could charge me for. The apartment was in rough shape when I moved in and the move in report reflects that. They chose to completely ignore the move in report and charge me over $200 from my damage deposit for small scratches and scuff marks on the walls. When we inquired further about this they stopped responding to our emails.I have rented from 4 different places in Winnipeg and this was by far the worst. Don't live here.

I do not recommend this house very much. Employees delay the answer until the last day before the day of arrival and refuse. They work irresponsibly and reluctantly!We have been waiting for a decision on the lease and contacted various managers of this company and they all said wait and nothing more. If this is the attitude towards customers at the beginning, then think about how they will solve your problems when you have already signed a lease agreement with them and you will have problems! Irresponsibility and desire only to earn on you!Thanks to luck that everything happened with this house and we successfully rented an apartment in a better place!

Good building, great maintenance staff, fantastic reception - that's about it. Management team is the worst, wouldn't be an understatement to call them scammers. Their contractors damaged the suite as well as appliances during our stay, which was blamed on the tenants despite proof. We didn't bother going to Tenancy Board as we moved out of province, but we had a legit case. Uncountable false advertisements and false promises that were never kept, quoting a variety of reasons. They appear professional in their communication, but the property, leasing and resident managers are teamed up to get you into the building at any cost, and keep your security deposit when you move out. As long as do not require to communicate with management, and are okay with your security deposit gone despite being an ideal, most quiet and cleanest tenant, you will likely enjoy your stay. Just don't have expectations of the team; the receptionists are absolutely fantastic though as well as maintenance staff-the best in my stay in Winnipeg. I have stayed in many countries before and currently in Vancouver, and can confidently say the property management team is set up to deceive you even when you bring up genuine concerns. I would still recommend people to consider living here, I have recommended this place to my friends as all utilities included here and they are competitive, as long as you keep yourself away from management and donate your security deposit. Living experience-the building is shaky and it's quite loud outside, it isn't really soundproofed, but comfortable lounge and a fantastic gym, comfy apartment like a hotel room (this used to be a hotel back in the day). One elevator down every other day or weekly. Laundry machines not maintained, so half of them were either flooded with error codes or just not working. The tap-to-unlock fobs do malfunction quite often though. Decent internet even for working from home. Smoke alarms went on so frequently that we ignored them, some people either smoke or do drugs in the building despite no-smoking policy and throw buds and syringes out the window to the patio/area below. In my humble opinion, the managers Debbie, Hilda and Joel are doing a terrible job, but Thorwin HQ couldn't care less, or they're in on it. They WILL take your security deposit even if you leave the unit in a better condition than you found it, or they will send their contractors to mess it up instead like change light fixtures on you, appliances, drill holes in walls looking for leaks and then blame it on you, so be prepared for that. Quite clean though, friendliest maintenance staff. Flexible rent payment options. Easy to request maintenance. Tiny window openings, but large windows. Have a great stay though! The Antares building is a phenomenal place. I really enjoyed my time there. I lived there for about 2 years and it was the best part of my stay in Winnipeg. They provided all amenities, quick to respond should you have any complaints or issues. My experience was definitely a 5 out of 5!
