Calhoun Stables

Very immature barn owners who like to gossip and spread lies. Horses get minimal hay when stabled and hardly any shavings. Would recommend ANYWHERE else to board other than here.

Unfortunately, I must agree with the review from K K and wish that my family had considered it more seriously before deciding on a boarding facility. We boarded our horse at Calhoun for one year. If owners do not regularly visit and attend their horses at this stable, their horse will be fed minimal hay and stalls do not get adequate bedding. Though we were drawn to the indoor arena and outdoor sand ring, these areas are not fully accessible. The indoor arena actually housed horses during the day for the duration of our boarding there so we had limited access to it and it was not adequately maintained. Outdoors, for the last part of our boarding there, our horse was moved to the sand ring as a paddock without a shelter due to fencing issues. Each visit to the property required navigating around new piles of equipment and junk, both in the parking area, the entryway into the tack room, and the entrance into the arena. The end of the indoor arena was used for storage, including hay bales, farm equipment, and various canisters of chemicals and gasoline - all within feet from where the owners stood to smoke cigarettes and leave their butts, which was beside the entrance into the stable where all the horses are stalled. I'm sorry to say that this is not a safe facility. When we attempted to bring ongoing concerns that were not being resolved to the attention of the owner, they became outraged and told us to leave. We sincerely wish the owners of this facility well, but we feel it is more important to warn potential boarders against this choice.

Moved my horse here recently and have noticed many amazing things. I have an OTTB gelding with high anxiety. Since moving here, I have seen a whole new side to my horse. He has become so calm and happy. The owners keep such a strict daily routine, and are constantly doing welfare checks on the horses to make sure they’re all happy and doing well. My horse enjoys his routine, always clean stall, and regular feedings. The owners truly care for your horse like it’s their own. The board is such a reasonable price for the facilities available. Sure, it’s not as fancy as the barns that charge 800+ for board, but it’s always clean and the care and safety of horses comes first here. It’s an extremely relaxed environment as well. There is no lesson program, no gossip or drama, or busy arenas. Very happy with my decision to board here and my horse clearly loves it as well.

Horses get the care and feed,I've been there and it's probably the best barn I've been to. Great rodeos rain or shine and a good owner
