My elderly mother lives in a nursing home in Toronto. For years, Medical Pharmacies has been the provider of all of the prescription drugs and over-the-counter (OTC) products for all of the residents living therein.I did not like how Care-RX had handled their takeover of Medical Pharmacies with respect to the timeliness of informing the POAs/family members/patients of the transition to new ownership. Also, I did not like the minimum wording in that letter of explanation that was inserted in the monthly drugs bill over a week after the transition had actually happened.No one had contacted me in advance to ask for permission for them to transfer Mom's and my personal information to this new company and also to their backup pharmacy that work on weekends and statutory holidays to fill pharmacy orders. That backup pharmacy is owned privately, not the same company as Medical Pharmacies/CareRX. The transfer of all medical and billing information for each patient/POA was allowed by all of the governing authorities. But, I just don't think it was right for privacy reasons, online security, etc. I felt railroaded and that our rights didn't matter.I have no complaints about how Medical Pharmacies has handled my mother's medications. But, it bothers me that a summary statement of the prescription drugs for the whole year is not available from them for our income tax deduction purposes unless we ASK Medical Pharmacies for it. It is not done automatically by them as a form of customer service. They have all of the email and mailing information on file so could do it if they wanted. It is easy to forget to even ask for the end-of-year summary while being busy working on the income tax returns for one's self and for a loved one. The nursing home doesn't care. Disappointing...
