This place is outdated, unsanitary, and dangerous to be in. Lots of security, violence almost daily, and unfriendly atmosphere and look. There was a case of mice in the food court when I had went in one day, which made me think if it was linked to two different stores closing, including Chinese takeout Manchu Wok, and Taco Time.

Very rundown. Filthy and smelly toilets. All sorts of wacky people standing in the worst places possible. The shoppers drug mart had insanely high prices... literally every deodorant sticks were above 10$?!?!There was a nice old guy playing the piano by the broken clock.

10 years seems like a long time, in some respects it is, but in the grand scheme of things it isn’t.However in this short period Portage Place has turned upside down, let me explain.10 years ago this place was thriving, yes the crime problem was still there, the drug problem was still there, and so was the homelessness issue, but not to the extent they are now.10 years ago I felt safe going with family and friends and friends to Portage Place, there were thriving businesses locally and corporate owned.Yea not anymore. The mall is a horror story if anything. Most of the stores are empty, selling out, or are government owned. However there is an INC, Shoppers Drug Mart, Dollarama that don’t seem to be going anywhere. However (however) those aren’t the type of fun stores you take your friends or family to the mall too. There is no activities, unless you consider watching your back to see who’s behind you an activity, plenty of that.Let me make this clear, I go to the University of Winnipeg, I have been visiting this place for a while now. This place ISNT safe at all, seriously, especially for families.Go to Polo or Outlet.

I like this place because it provides easy pricing restaurants, service canada location, dollarama, dentist, cafe, Canada post, shoppers drug mart, Fido, virgin plus… etc. however, too many scary people around, I was terrified in several conditions. Best wishes for this place.

Has a post-apocalyptic vibe. Many stores closed. Security detail breaking up fights, etc. Bathrooms scary. Interesting building but no longer a viable enterprise imo. Wish it was a more positive experience, but it is really unclear how to generate large-scale improvement.

They have skinwalkers running out of here after hours. The mall is supposed to stay open for the underground walkway but it does not. Security will steal lost phones and have them resold by the mobile kiosks inside the mall. Mall is unsafe, inside and out. Security is useless and so is the administrative team.

I would give portage place 5 stars except for the fact that the patronizing demographic in the mall is very sketchy and I’m never sure if I should have my cellphone dialed and connected to a friend in case I need help in a hurry and they can dial 911. Other than that love most of the shops and the multiple levels and attached convenient skywalks. It’s too bad that most people didn’t get to experience the mall in its heyday when IMAX and the theatre were in use and the fountains and atmosphere was so much more vibrant. Today it’s just a pale reflection of what it was as more and more people choose to avoid the area in favor of other malls like Polo Park or St Vital centre where the selection is better and so is personal safety is usually better as well. Portage Place after dark can be very terrifying to the uninitiated. The food court has a great selection of food though.

Slightly run down, I dont even think the fountain works anymore... I wish they could get rid of the riff-raff and get some more stores, however everytime I go there another store closes it's doors. It doesn't help that most people only work downtown part time... Right now they re filming a Christmas movie there so if you are missing Christmas, you should go.

Such a shame. Once upon a time… before my time, this mall had good stores in it. It’s so dead now. No reason to go there. It was convenient when I went to the U or W to come here for supplies and a few things. I haven’t stepped foot in this mall since I graduated the U of W. It’s just a shame that the vision for this mall was to be a mini Eaton centre, and instead it’s a dying mall.
