This place is so homey! Staff is very friendly and are happy to give their recommendations. The food is exquisite! I was so happy to find this phenomenal Ethiopian place. The veggie and/or mix variety sampler dishes are the way to go. You can order one and share with 2 or 3 people easily. Absolutely delicious!

The ambiance is pretty casual, and you come in and wait in line until your part can be seated. My party and I ordered the meat combo and the veggie combo so we could try a bunch of things. It was totally the best move because we got to try so many amazing things. Eating with your hands and the injera bread was a little weird at first but after a minute I was loving the experience!I would definitely come back here as it was all so flavorful and different than most things around here. I definitely recommend visiting!

Asmara is unequivocally one of the best restaurants in the entire Boston area. The meat and veggie combo (see photo) is our go-to dish — you sample a little bit of everything, and every bite is just nirvana in your mouth. Perfect dish to share and enjoy for any sized group, whether it’s a pair or a crowd of 6. Also the great thing about the food is that even if you overeat (which you inevitably will b/c it’s so dang tasty), the food is so healthy and nutritionally dense that you don’t feel “gross” afterwards. We order the meat and veggie combo every time we come here (and it’s been like 50x and counting). Last but not least, Sarah is THE BEST — she is hospitality at its finest.

I loved this place. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. We each got the vegetarian combo. There was a good amount of each type for two people. The inside atmosphere was fun!! I would come back and order my favorite item from the vegetarian combo.

I walk by this restaurant constantly, and something about it had been calling to me for *months* before I got the chance to go. Perhaps it's the difficulty of actually getting seated at a table to eat here - I had planned multiple excursions here, only to be turned away, before I was actually successful. They had a month-long closure earlier this year, then they were closed on a Friday evening that I came out (so note that the listed hours might not always be correct), and on top of that there are often long lines. Because it's so busy, don't expect service to be quick, but everyone we interacted with was extremely nice! The interior isn't very large, but it has quite an intimate feel with seating clustered together. In fact, on one end of the restaurant, there are chairs without any tables typical to Western restaurants, which certainly invites a feeling of authenticity. The menu was accompanied by a description of the cuisine. As someone who is not overly familiar with Eritrean food, it was lovely to learn more about the culture and components of the meal.We ordered the ahimilti bebaynetu (vegetable combination) and sega bebaynetu (meat combination). All the orders for the party are served on a single platter/basket, along with a few pieces of injera, which looks like a cross between a porous, spongy pancake and crepe. Injera doesn't have a strong flavor on its own, but it's a good base when you tear off a piece and use it to scoop up the dish. The vegetable combination included yellow split peas, chickpeas, and lentils, all of which I really enjoyed. They were well flavored with spices and cooked to a soft, stew-like consistency. Portion sizes were pretty filling as well. There are no utensils here, so wash your hands before eating! Also note that they don't accept Google/Apple Pay (credit cards are fine). Prices aren't super cheap, but I think it's well worth at least trying once for the experience and exposure to a culture and restaurant that may be different than what you're used to!

This is a great and warm place to eat. The food might be a bit late and it is definitely the worth. The vibe is really great here. One person can not finish the whole plate. Good for two. The owner is a nice lady

Asmara has the best leftovers in town! Try this. Order a little extra so you can take these amazing flavors home with you. For breakfast, beat a few eggs. Put your leftovers in a lightly oiled pan and pour the eggs over them. Makes an amazing omelet.

Such a fun vibe and great flavors! Loved the huge plates and eating with my hands. I don’t think I am the biggest fan of Eritrean food, but everything tasted great. I especially loved the sponginess of the bread :) Very friendly waitress too! I recommend getting the trials of the meat and veggie, so you can taste everything! Surprisingly, I liked the bean dishes the best.

Cute little Ethiopian restaurant. I got the meat combo with beef, chicken and lamb. We also got a couple apps, spinach with ricotta and the stuff tomato.

Amazing and authentic Ethiopian food! Came here for a casual dinner and was wowed! You must have the homemade honey wine (pictured), and you can’t go wrong with any platter! Our waiter was genuine and made sure we knew what we were doing. Twas a good Monday
