I worked with a contractor Daniel Beavan. All renovation/contractor nightmares happened. My first mistake was paying a deposit before starting and then partial balance when supplies were received. He was great at first, showed up everyday to do the framing. Then disappeared for a bit as he waited for electrician and plumber who kept cancelling and then ended up showing up on a Sunday when I didn't know. Still I gave him the benefit of the doubt as it wasn't him, and he asked me for more money from the final payment, which I reluctantly agreed to as I wanted the job done and he had been showing up before this.Eventually that was all complete and he still didn't show back up to complete the drywall. But kept texting they would be there that day and then receive a text that something came up and they would be there the next day. This happened for a couple weeks. I understood he had another job installing a kitchen and was fine with him finishing that first with the expectation that he would then focus on my job and complete it.He did mention that he had forgotten a few things in his original quote like paint and baseboards. I wasn't happy about this as I said when I reviewed it with him he said it included everything. But what he said he missed I didn't think would be that much, so said to give me a price and we can discuss. Then he finally showed up a day and told me the job would be $18,000 more than he originally quoted!! I lost it, this was my worst fear and the numbers didn't make sense. He quoted $7,000 for painting! At this point I was furious and refused to pay that much more. He apparently had a disagreement with his partner who did the quote, but he was there when it was presented to me and repeatedly said it included everything we discussed, as I am not a contractor and don't realize it didn't include things.We agreed that I would pay for materials going forward and same final payment would be due on completion plus I would do some work like paint. Progress started again but it was strange, he would come at like 6/7pm and stay until 10/11pm. I didn't complain because I just wanted this done. He also repeatedly kept asking me for more money out of final payment, which as not much work was progressing I could not do. Multiple times we talked about getting the dry wall done so I could paint. Dates were promised and passed with no completion. This happened twice.I was promised a date to do paint, which passed and drywall was not complete. Then unfortunately, my mother got COVID. So as a precaution I isolated and got tested, which was negative. As my two weeks was coming over, I repeatedly texted him to discuss the plan for completion. He never responded to my texts or calls. So I got in touch with his boss" Jon. I then received an angry call from Daniel about getting in touch with his boss and how he regretted taking my job and again asking for more money.At this point

Bailed out of the job and left us stranded after insisting on having a deposit and not showing up for the work. Numerous reasons. Parging work was not completed and what was done now needs to be grinded. Forgot to ease in. Some part of the ease-trough was supposed to be changed in front of the building and that did not happen. Very disappointing. Should not have to chase people to do what they said they would do. Was suppose to paint a Duplex... That also did not happen.
