The other reviews on here are definitely not fair. We ate here last week and quite enjoyed it. It was clean, bright, well maintained, and friendly. Steeped in history, evidence of the long architectural history can be found everywhere. For a small family owned restaurant the single server kept up very well with all the customers in the room. The food, although not stellar, is also not the glitzy colorful sugar laden garbage you commonly get. What you get here is straight up clean food done in the Chinese Western Style that many small Canadian towns are home to. The portions were good, and the taste was fine. I recommend Johnny's, but patrons should check the attitude at the door and enjoy the small town experience.PS: If May serves you, say hello and tell her you read a positive review on google, and her smile will light up the room.

We came here for the first time today. They have a red seal chef, who makes delicious food. We had one of the combo dinners each with wonton soup. Everything was fresh and tasty. The won ton soup had the clear broth with just enough sesame oil flavour, and the wonton themselves were tender and delicious.Friendly service with a smile. This is one of the CLEANEST restaurants I have ever eaten in! Not one spec of dust anywhere. Also their AHS health inspections have noted zero violations! We will definitely be back to this lovely hidden gem!

The restaurant is quite nice and the people are friendly, however we ordered sweet and sour chicken balls and chicken fried rice. The chicken balls were raw and a few of them had no chicken in them. Also somehow the food tasted like nothing, it had no flavour. For the price it is, it's not worth it.

The place was welcoming and spacious . But food was not great . But portions were large . Two portions of fried rice were adequate for three people .Service was good

I hate to say this, but this is my first one star rating. It is unfortunate because the owners seem like fabulous people, but the meals we had we're so bad we didn't finish them. It's unfortunate but they locked any flavor or color or anything else you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. We usually are pretty accommodating as a family when eating, but all four of us did not complete our meal. We still tip them as I said earlier they seem like great people.

I’m sorry to say this but the food was not very good! Dinner for Five and portions were small. The dumplings were hard and chewy, the dry ribs were over cook, the rice were over cooked and hard. And the lady kept walking around telling everyone that it’s so so so very busy. Ya i won’t be going to Johnnys again. i spent $210 for untasty food.

Ate here last night with a co worker, had some Chinese food and both of us had a few bites and had to leave, it was very dried out reheated probably many times, I love Chinese food but this was probably the worst I've ever had!

Haven’t been here since I was a kid, it has changed a lot. Very nice and clean. They’re kind and gracious hosts. We had breakfast and it was delicious. They use actual fried potatoes for the hashbrowns, instead of frozen.

Absolutely awful! Picked up lunch for a few friends when I got home and opened it up the chicken balls where black, and rock hard. The fried rice appeared to have chips in it, no it was just very old dry fried egg. The beef in the beef and broccoli was grey. Grey not brown. When I took the order back the owner yelled at me and told me he hadn’t had a complaint in 45 years of cooking. Processed to walk away and slam a door.

I gave this place 3 stars for the following reasons:Service 5/5Amazing owners who run the store, who are very kind and talkative. The service is quite fast as well!Food 3/5The restaurant serves Chinese-Western fusion dishes, and personally I found the food to be quite normal. Of course, the dishes were alright, but to compare the quality I would say the taste is similar to Chinese buffet dishes that you will often find in Canada. Personally, I would have appreciated more seasoning and flavour (such as spice) in most of the dishes, as well as more variety on the menu.Interior 4/5I enjoyed the vintage and retro interior of the store, as it really fit in with the rest of the shops along the street. The interior is spacious and welcoming, and the seats are quite comfortable. It can accommodate large groups.
