Star Building Materials

Randy is a great asset to Star Building. Last year, Randy was able to source some railing (that was discontinued) to match my existing railing. This year, I changed my design a bit and needed additional railing (the same discontinued colour). I contacted a few people who could not source it for me. Randy goes above and beyond to make even the general home DIY customer feel valued. Thanks a bunch Randy!

Take this from a framing company owner who has used every single supplier of lumber and building products in the Calgary and surrounding areas at least 10 times each: Star has, by FAR, the best staff, the best lumber, the best truss division, the best joist division, and the best shipping division of any other supplier. Every builder who has used the competition in hopes to find a company who can beat Star's pricing and service quickly realized that you get what you pay for, and always came back around. I am constantly reminding the builders I work with, both new and old, that with better products, better service, better shipping, and better management, the money you spend in the beginning will always make you money in the end. All in all, hands down, Star is the only place you need to go if you're in the home building market.

Excellent service. Didn’t have to go back to the store to get more lumber like I did with Rona, Star was very close on the material but I did have to return a small amount. Much easier than the last garage I build a year ago.

Update at the end:Ordered a garage package from them to be delivered on a Friday morning, and it didn't show up Friday at all. They did call to let me know but it was delay, delay, delay, finally got it Saturday.Then all of the 2x4x8 studs that I had ordered with it came in different lengths. Some were 96 1/8, some were 97 1/4, and basically anything in between. I had to spend two hours just cutting them to length before I could begin any real construction.Their response? Well lumber comes from different mills with different tolerances". But if that's the case

Star Building Materials had excellent customer service. They were the best at responding to a materials and custom truss order out of the four places I obtained quotes from. Randy was fantastic and really took the time to go through the required custom trusses and materials. He had the truss layout from gary and all pricing ready the next day. Very fast turnaround. They also responded very positively to a modification of the truss setup as well as the delivery period. Their pricing was very reasonable, and the truss cost was much lower than I expected it to be. I am very happy with their service and will definitely be going there first for all future materials needs.

Requested a garage package quote and the guy I dealt with, and I won't mention his name, almost sounded like I was annoying him. He provided the quote on time and it was pretty good, but getting any additional detail is arduous. I know it's a busy time but I guess I just expected more on the customer service side. Bumped it up from a 2 star to three when I finally heard back because I do want to deal with them.
