Shifa Medical Clinic

I have been a patient of Dr. Akbar's for awhile now and I find her very efficient and her staff is also friendly and very helpful.

Dr Abar is our family dr since 2017, she is very helpful and kind person. The new crew at Shifa clinic are professional and always ready to help. The pharmacist is also a nice guy, to make it easy for me as im taking many medications for a long time they send it to my home every week.

I wish I could give it less than 3 stars, if I'm being frank. I was a patient of Doctor Akbar at Amari Medical Clinic and the office had a fantastic team of Medical Office Assistants that were polite, concise, and efficient. I didn't have to worry about referrals or prescriptions being faxed over; they did it in a timely manner.The MOAs at Shifa do not even answer the phone. I've called from both my cellphone and work phone, only to have both on over 10 minute holds with no answer. Doctor Akbar had 2 weeks to complete and return a referral to a sleep apnea clinic, assured me she did so over the phone, and ended our call. I got a text message from the clinic today that they still haven't received this referral, with my appointment being tomorrow. If I don't have it, my appointment will be rescheduled and I will be delayed from life-changing medical care AGAIN because of Shifa Medical. This is unacceptable. Fire your MOAs and get new ones or retrain them; you are running a medical clinic, behave like so.

I've been a patient of Dr. Akbar's since she was at Amari Medical clinic and had no issues with her or the MOAs there.I've been trying to phone the clinic for over 45 mins today. The MOAs haven't answered my calls. I had an appointment yesterday via telephone to get a doctor's note and I was told it would be emailed to me. I tried phoning again at 12:23pm and got an automated message saying our phones are turned off for lunch between 12-12:30pm". Having the entire staff go for lunch at the same time is not an effective way to manage a clinic. I've been having issues with reports being sent to ICBC in a timely manner. I really did not want to write a complaint but this is beyond unacceptable."

I have been a patient of Dr Z Akbar for a number of years. I feel she is a great Dr.I am writing here to warn other patients, not to make telephone appointments!I had a 10:50 appointment, have been phoning every hour, only to be informed she is busy!I do not understand why I was given a specific time. If I miss the call a $50 charge.In office patients are given a priority! I will not be making a telephone appointment again.

Well run clinic. I see Dr. Akbar and have seen others doctors in the clinic in the past. Very happy with the efficiency and caring demeanor of Dr.Akbar, she doesnt make me feel rushed and makes sure all my needs are taken care of.

Dr Akbar is very unprofessional and rude. For about a year, I called her office for days at a time from opening to close just to book an appointment, and got nothing. I tried booking an appointment online and it looks like I’m blocked from making appointments. It doesn’t make any sense. I asked my sister to book on my behalf and when she called she accused me of making multiple appointment last year that I did not make? Last year I tried getting a hold of her so desperately so why would I book and not show up? She wasn’t willing to listen to me during this phone call, and said I probably have memory loss and forgot I made these appointments. No matter what I said her response was very hostile and rude. She then threatened to not help my family either as patients because we were “cheating the system”. All because I asked my sister to book an appointment on my behalf. This attitude as a doctor is very scary and I now would not want her to even be assisting my family moving forward. We as a family after this interaction will be not be visiting her.

I've been one of Dr Akbar's patients for a couple years now. She has always been very receptive to my concerns and requests. I haven't had any problems at all with the reception staff or paperwork; they are easy to speak with, and have always been able to help me. If I need paperwork for my benefits, I've always been able to get it.

Long story short: Doctor Akbar dropped me as a patient in front of her employees when I was trying to get my Obstructive Sleep Apnea diagnosed. She refused me care. In May, I got diagnosed with moderate OSA at the UBC Rapid Access Sleep Disorder Clinic—my referral was fast tracked when they found out I had fallen asleep twice at the wheel of my car in traffic. The doctor there also diagnosed me with asthma, for which Doctor Akbar recommended Tylenol.In November 2022, I asked Doctor Akbar to fill in a Home Sleep Apnea Test and send it to my desired clinic. When I spoke with Doctor Akbar on the phone, she said that she had filled it and sent it. The day before my appointment, the clinic told me this was not the case. Instead, she sent it to another location and they would have to cancel my test without the referral.I sent an email to Shifa Medical about no longer feeling safe in their care due to Doctor Akbar’s issues with timeliness and lack of attentiveness, I got no response. When I showed up the next day to physically get my referral from the MOAs, Doctor Akbar came waddling out of her office ready to yell at me about how she would no longer have me as a patient and how rude I was to leave the email criticizing her. She divulged personal information in front of her pharmacist and her MOAs. She’s barely a physician, she’s a straight up clown and you should let the 1-star reviews speak for themselves.Don’t bother with Shifa Medical if you plan on seeing Doctor Akbar—just go to Urgent Care. Save yourself the time.

It’s not worth even one star! Terrible receptionists! This is a non-trustworthy fly-by-night clinic.Price gouging ! We were told different doctors there have different registration fees ! What a ridiculously funny excuse!
