Audacious Vocals

We have been in Vancouver for only 6 months and we were lucky to meet Dorcas, who helped our daughter maintaining and improving her vocal skills. She will now go back to France with better voice and a lot more technical competence. Thanks to Dorcas, she will be able to continue progressing. Thank you, Dorcas! We were lucky to find you!

I’ve only been seeing Dorcas for a short time, but already I see the positive effects on my singing, both in sound and feel. I found her because I was looking for someone who could address the persistent vocal fatigue I felt when singing and even speaking, and not only have the techniques she’s taught me shown that I can alleviate that, but she makes sure that I also understand why fatigue happens. Dorcas is a fantastic teacher who truly knows what she’s doing!

Starting singing lessons with Dorcas was the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. I had an introductory lesson in October, and then signed up for weekly lessons for the fall, and this winter / spring. I am an amateur who never had vocal training before; I was in choir as a child, and as an adult enjoyed karaoke nights at friends' houses. I wanted to improve as a singer, but to be honest, I didn't realize how much improvement was truly possible. Dorcas is knowledgeable, insightful, and encouraging. In her studio, she fosters a beautiful safe space to explore your voice - and any internal hang-ups you may have about talent vs. skill, and who is allowed" to sing. Through my lessons with her I have increased my understanding of the mechanics of singing

Going into lessons I had zero experience with singing. Within a few lessons with Dorcas I have started to gain a greater understanding of how to really maximize the potential of my voice. She is a wonderful instructor who caters lessons to the needs of each student, and above all else, she makes it really fun and engaging!

The words “teacher, instructor, or coach” do not adequately describe her caring, logical, and inspirational method of imparting vocal performance knowledge in her learners. It will be self-evident from your first moments with Dorcas that she is very invested in your individual needs as an aspiring performer.As her student and as a physician myself, I can honestly say that she is a bona fide “doctor of the voice.” Because she has such extensive knowledge of the human voice from both anatomic and artistic perspectives, she comfortably listens in the lesson, analyzes, discusses, and then provides students with a custom suite of techniques and exercises that works for them to bring out the best in every unique voice.She somehow takes incredibly abstract concepts and makes them real, understandable, and workable. That she does this with such incredible energy and humour makes being in her studio an even more wonderful experience and definitely something to look forward to.

Dorcas is a great voice teacher with excellent teaching techniques. I went to her as a reasonably trained singer but was feeling very stuck and frustrated at singing with too much tension and too little freedom. Dorcas explained in the simplest and most tangible terms what I needed my body and brain to do to sing more freely. Step by little step, she helped me build a new engine to power the sound and put down the tools that needn’t and shouldn’t be used. She is methodical, disciplined, fully engaged, and strict but fun. In a lesson less than 2 months later I found myself singing with a new found freedom - free from effort and tension - and with easy strength and power. Thank you Dorcas.
