Dave Milliken Music Lessons

I have been taking weekly guitar lessons from Dave for about 3 years. I wanted to learn the basics and expand into different playing styles, e.g. finger style, as well as learning to read music. Dave has totally exceeded my expectations...he is patient, thoroughly knowledgable and lots of fun. Can't say I'm the next Eric Clapton but am making steady progress proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

My wife gave me music lessons with Dave 3 years ago and it was one of the best Christmas presents I ever received. We have Jam Sessions with our friends who play guitar so I decided to take up the bass. I was going the self teaching route but I wasn't getting very far. Since I started taking lessons with Dave my bass playing has improved immeasurably and I get so much more enjoyment out of our Jam Sessions.I would tell anyone who is planning on taking up an instrument and trying to learn it on their own not to waste their time. You improve so much faster working with a teacher like Dave. His ability to figure out the chords or individual notes to your favorite songs that you're trying to learn, just by ear, is remarkable.

I'm slightly biased as I now know Dave very well, but I first met him in 2007 when I started taking guitar lessons. What I love about Dave as a teacher is that he is professionally trained (has a degree in music), so not only can he teach you to play your favorite tunes, he can also teach theory and all the fundamentals of music if you are interested in them.I have taken both guitar and piano lessons from him. He is patient, thorough and has a huge repertoire. He makes the learning process fun!! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending him - you will not be disappointed.

Really enjoying my piano lessons with Dave. I’m a beginner adult, and he is very patient and helpful. Appreciate the flexibility to do virtual lessons during the pandemic. For in-person lessons, Dave’s music room is comfortable and well-equipped.

I started taking guitar lessons from Dave a number of years ago but switched to the piano three years ago. For me, Dave is more like a coach than a traditional teacher. I pick the music that I'd like to play and he helps me analyze the music, listen to the subtleties of the recording, re-arrange it if necessary and he provides feedback on my interpretation. His knowledge of music and his ability to analyze a piece just by listening is very impressive.

I feel very lucky to have found Dave as a guitar teacher. He is: a talented technique coach who can always see, hear and communicate what I need to do (or not do), to get more of the sound I want. An insightful songwriting/arranging mentor, who helps me to better say what I want to say with my own songs. Amazingly good at figuring out all the parts I miss, when learning to play and sing anything at all ... I have never managed to stump him. Very knowledgeable about theory. Respectful of my musical interests and journey. And, a delightful musician whose beautiful sound keeps me inspired.

He has a knack for breaking down into parts a seemingly impossible technique or music piece and making it possible. He also employs a range of teaching methods to suit students' learning styles. I have learned huge amounts from Dave at the level of both technique and music theory, and have a whole lot of fun playing the guitar at the same time.
