Chartwell Westmount Retirement Residence
My parents moved into Chartwell Westmount in September 2020 as it was the only home around that allowed my two parents the opportunity to live together while also receiving assisted living. John helped to make the transition a very positive experience. Since then, my parents have been very pleased with their new home. The staff have been very friendly and helpful and my parents love that everyone knows their names. Staff have worked very hard to make them feel welcome and, considering the circumstances, we feel that they have done an excellent job. My parents also like that there is some exercise equipment that they can access and a physiotherapist who provides in-home" therapy and exercises a couple of times a week. Whenever we

My dad moved into Chartwell Westmount approximately 6 months ago . He was moving in just after spending a long stay in the hospital and also during Covid. This was a difficult time for my dad and for us.John Whitting, the Resident Living Consultant, was so amazing to work with. John listened to my dad’s situation, and our concerns about finding the right fit to meet his needs etc. John was a big reason why we made the decision to choose Chartwell. He was so helpful, kind and always available to us for any questions or concerns. Working with John helped to ensure that this would be a good fit for my dad. In addition, John was able to also help us make the move happen fairly quickly as we needed a quick transition from the hospital. Before my dad moved into Chartwell, he was very lonely. Now he has daily contact with all the staff and other residents. He really likes the staff and he likes that everyone seems to know his name and always calls him by name. The activity and events calendar comes out monthly and there is always so much for the residents to do, including special events and bus trips. I am so happy to see my dad participating in the daily exercise programs, Sing A Longs etc. He especially likes the pub hours with live entertainment and loves that he can even have a beer while enjoying the shows! We have been very happy with how COVID has been handled. They follow the protocols to keep everyone safe, at the same time understanding how important it is for residents to still have contact with their family & to stay active. As a family member, I have especially appreciated the regular updates & emails that we would receive from Kristen Lister (General Manager) to keep us informed.Having a family member with Alzheimer’s is very hard some days. Since my dad has moved to the Assisted Living floor of the Westmount, he seems happy and content, which is so important and really helps put our minds at ease.Thank you to everyone at Westmount Chartwell, who care for him on a daily basis and help bring happiness to my dad’s life.Thank you!

May 2021I have been advised that the meals have increased in taste and presentation now, much to the relief of the residents! Perhaps things are looking up?! As I receive more updates, I will post them.December 2020Since I left my review in 2018, management has made every effort to recruit people to leave very positive comments about conditions at Westmount, so please be aware of this. The food has improved somewhat, but with changing staff on a regular basis, the quality of the food received by residents is lacking continuity. Head office sends out 6 weeks of menus to be rotated through, which would probably be just fine if they didn't purchase food from Sisco based on quantity, rather than quality. Sisco has different levels of food to purchase, so if they went up even one level, it would help to tempt the seniors' appetite. After all, seniors really don't eat big portions! With the amount of money charged each month to each senior, they are STILL not being given value for money!2018My father lived at Westmount since it opened its doors. At the very beginning, living at Westmount was wonderful. The staff were great, the General Manager was absolutely fantastic, the food was top-notch, and the public areas and furniture was like walking into a luxury hotel. That was our family's experience for approximately 2 years after Westmount opened. Then everything changed. The General Manager moved on. There have been several managers since. None match the friendliness and dedication of the original manager. A few of the staff are absolutely fantastic. Most have left and been replaced by people who consider their jobs as just that; a job. They do the bare minimum, and no more. The public areas and dining room furniture have become very worn and dated. The residents were promised that they would have new dining furniture, etc., but nothing has been done to address the dirty, smelly fabric of the chairs. They should have a wipe-clean cover on the seat of the chairs, but complaints have been ignored. There are several problems with the building itself, and there have been burst water pipes that sprayed very hot water right next to the dining tables, and there have been several mould problems throughout the building. Access to hot water at the far ends of the building is a problem, and it takes running taps for an inordinate amount of time to finally get hot water to wash one's own dishes. We were told that the water system had not been installed properly, and nothing was done to remediate the problem. Let me address the cleaning of individual suites: staff are not allowed to move furniture or personal belongings such as clocks, bowls, soap dishes and toothbrush holders. They do not CLEAN soap dishes. The bathroom and small tiled area in the kitchen" area is cleaned with a Swiffer mop

At Westmount Retirement, we had opportunity to perform musically for the residents. It is a lovely retirement residence with staff and residents that are very welcoming and friendly. It makes it a pleasure to entertain them all and look forward to see them again soon. R & S Country by Roger and Sue McConnell.

I'm a retired cable television station manager from Sarnia. My husband was doing some contract work for Chartwell Westmount Retirement Residence. To my surprise, he came home with an appreciation package from Spencer Wolf (Chartwell Food Service Manager). It consisted of Canadian-made Chartwell carry bag filled with mouth-watering dessert samples from his kitchen. There were banana chocolate chip cream cheese muffins, fresh yellow watermelon slices, stove-popped popcorn, chocolate zucchini loaf and, get this, in-season cherry tomatoes homegrown on the property. What a personal touch! If you are considering looking at Chartwell Westmount Retirement home, be sure to dig deeper, meet the staff and, for sure, check out Spencer Wolf and the kitchen personnel. A good home starts with good surroundings, warm, thoughtful, loving staff and friends and, of course, great healthy home cooking. You get our 5-star recommendation.

My mother-in-law recently moved to the Westmount Retirement Residence (October 2020). Staff have been very friendly and helpful throughout the process, including those involved in the initial consultation, move, front desk, cleaning, programming, dining and other services. Communication with family has been excellent and there has been good follow-up on any needs or questions. They have also dealt with the pandemic well, working to keep residents both safe and still engaged given some of the limitations in social programs. All are made to feel very welcome, it feels very much like a small neighborhood which definitely helped make the transition an easy one.

Recently visited Chartwell Westmount Retirement Residence Kitchener with Specsavers Fairview Park Mall to tend to the residents' glasses. All of the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. You can tell they truly enjoy being there and have all of the residents wellbeing at heart. The service they provide is outstanding and you can tell all of the residents' enjoy being there.

I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to the management and staff during my stay at the Chartwell Westmount retirement home. The twenty months I spent there was very enjoyable. The building is bright and spacious, your individual room cleaned, and bed linens washed and changed on a weekly basis is large and tastefully decorated. Events and activities are printed each month, and are available to all residents. This program listing covers most things seniors enjoy, card players, puzzle groups, and live music is provided on a regular basis. The company owned bus transports residents to shopping malls, banks, country drives, special events, etc. I have no hesitation in recommending Chartwell Westmount as a complete retirement haven. A conducted tour during their open houses is very rewarding.

We as entertainers just want to say how much we appreciated the way we were made to feel welcome at Westmount Retirement Residence. The staff was so helpful and supportive and we received exceptional hospitality including a thankyou note from the activities director. The residents were a wonderful audience and fun to perform for. Looking forward to returning in the fall to entertain there again.
