Mike Burns of Dogtooth Construction is as honest a person and homebuilder you’ll ever find. He truly is a 6-star builder in a 5-star world.We met Mike by referral from trusted friends who had worked with him in the past. At the time, our friends were homeless from the recent sale of their house and were looking to build again while also planning to spend the better part of the upcoming year in Europe. Assuming they would need to pick one or the other, we were shocked to find out they were planning to do both at the same time. When we asked how they were going to pull it all off, they told us, “Simple. As soon as we sign the contract with Dogtooth, we’ll take off and come back when Mike is ready to hand over the keys”.This was all we needed to hear. Within a month, we had met with Mike, cancelled meetings with other builders, finalized plans and signed our building contract.The first thing we learned from Mike was an estimate is only as good as the company standing behind it. Mike made it very clear early on he preferred to operate in realty not fantasy.The next thing we learned was there are still companies out there who care about delivering on promises and spending your money as if it was their own. As such, we were never put in a position where an invoice or charge needed to be challenged.And after that, we learned when Dogtooth says you’ll be in your new house for Christmas and they only have 9 months to build your dream home, they’re not kidding.Not only was our house finished on time and budget, Mike and his crew managed to add some “well if it was my house, here’s what I would do” tweaks to our original plan that showed they really did care about building the best house possible for us. For that and the friendship we have maintained ever since, we are truly gratefulEvery time someone asks us what its like to work with Dogtooth, we tell them, “You’ll get much more than you expect”.And when they ask about Mike, who we now know as a friend, we tell them he’s one of those guys who’s the first to offer help but the last to ever ask for it. Yes, those kinds of people still do exist.

And it is weekly so it is real time.At the end of it all, we gained new friends at Dog Tooth, Mike and family and the employees. We ended up with the cabin of our dreams, every idea we had Dog Tooth was able to put into reality.Visitors walk into the back door of the cabin and just stand in awe, it happens all the time. We and Dog Tooth successfully implemented ideas, finishing, design and processes not so easily accomplished or seen. A Company to have the fortitude, patience to see this to fruition. Construction can be painful and get worse from there. This one was all good, from start to quick finish, no worries.

Having built and purchased many homes in Western Canada the Dogtooth team are the most highly skilled , hard working and detailed orientated individuals I've encountered and they are a credit to themselves the industry, Golden community and Canadian construction.For our family home they built the entire house including all the custom cabinetry.
