Out East Adventure Centre

This is a great spot. It’s right in the middle of the park, so you can get to pretty much any trailhead in less than 20 minutes. I came for the equipment they offer in their store and stayed for the affordable hospitality. Gary & Colin made a last-minute check-in a breeze and they are extremely knowledgeable about the area. Lila is especially friendly, respectful, and motivated to provide a fun experience that you won’t get at any other hostel. They’ve got board games, a massive common area, and a deck out back with a fire pit. “Murp” or “Merp” (idk) is a very cute cat that hangs around the hostel, so be warned if you’re traveling with someone who has an allergy. Dorm/shared rooms are $40/person and private rooms are $80 flat. I opted for the private room (with private bathroom and shower) and stayed for 2 nights. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have been more satisfied during my stay, and I would absolutely recommend OutEast to anyone visiting Gros Morne. I can see what they were going for in terms of interior design, but it is a tad tacky. That’s my only critic.

I was visiting Newfoundland with three teenaged boys and our four days in Rocky Harbour was the highlight of their two week trip. The staff at Out East Adventure Centre created an incredibly welcoming, inclusive atmosphere and were constantly engaging with my boys. They gave excellent advise as to where to visit, what to see, how to get there, etc. The dorms were some of the best set-up dorms I have seen in hostels and I loved that there was also a private room option for mom. I also liked that noise was completely done by 11pm and things stayed quiet after that. I would highly recommend this hostel for families and people of all ages.

Excellent place for budget and no-fuss travellers. For those who aren't keen on bunk beds, they have many private rooms with en-suite available. There is also a communal kitchen if you would like to cook your own meal. The staff is very friendly and they offer pickup services and guided hikes. Just remember to buy your grocery before heading here as there is no large supermarkets in the vicinity.

Great location, great people, great price.Hostels aren't my thing due to the lack of privacy, but this one? Fantastic. Bunks can be curtained off, there's a bathroom in each suite, and right in the heart of the park? What more could you ask for? Guides and planned trips? They do that too!

Colin was an absolutely amazing host at this hostel - so knowledgeable about the area, really welcoming, and even knew (before we really did) after our long hike into western Brook pond that we’d want to stay a second night, and had the room all ready for us when we got back to the hostel. The rooms were really clean and the common areas had such a fun environment that made it hard to leave! We will definitely be back.

Great hostel! Staff friendly. Especially Lila. She was really helpful. I was in 6 bunk bed room with a restroom. The bed had a curtain and this one of the things I really appreciated. There's also a kitchen and laundry(5$ for access) It was clean. If you are going to do Gros Morne Mountain Hiking Trail, it's 6 minutes from there. I did it and it was amazing!

First hostel - very impressed. Currently biking across Canada, and this is a lovely stop. Kind people, good amenities, clean.
