My gardens have not been this perfect in years

My wife and I moved to Orangeville in June. Half way through June, my wife decided to hire Roger to perform a lawn care service (mowing weekly), for $180/mo - and to perform a yard clean up - for $550 - which, among other things, included removal of a cedar tree and mulching of beds, with edging. He requested the $180 up front, along with a $120 deposit to purchase landscaping fabric and mulch.In three weeks of lawn care, Roger mowed the front lawn once. Other times were met with excuses (too hot, too dry, too wet) - and he was supposed to come the next day to complete. That never happened. In addition, he charged an extra $25 to remove pine cones - even though we hadn’t got the mows we’d paid for. When challenged, he said he came by and picked up sticks and garbage. There is no evidence he did this; garbage remained on the property, plus why were we paying extra to rake up pine cones?For the yard clean up, he did mulch and remove the tree as agreed. However, edging around the mulch beds was not completed, and the matting under the mulch was a half-job, allowing weeds to come through. Nothing was done in the back yard.On July 4th, we were exasperated with a lack of progress and asked Roger to call by to discuss. He did, and after discussion, we told him the lawn service would no longer be required as our expectations were not being met. He tried to explain he still came by and picked up sticks and other things (no evidence of this, there were always sticks, pine cones and garbage on the lawn), and still insisted on a full $180 payment for June, even though he started half way through the month, came once, and on that one occasion only mowed the front yard rather than the entire property.In order to keep things smooth, we agreed to pay the full amount (huge mistake - but we were trying to show we’re reasonable), and also paid the full amount for the yard work on the understanding he would come back and complete the edging. We also paid $90 for July.I thought the arrangement was fair - we had paid in full, and we parted ways on good terms.By July 17th - thirteen days later - no edging had been completed, and he hadn’t been back to mow. Weeds were growing through the mulch - a testament to the poor work completed. Extremely disappointing.Since then, we have called, texted and left voicemails for two weeks continuously asking Roger to come and complete the work.He has ignored all communications - even though his phone is ringing, therefore it’s being charged and used. We wanted to give him a chance to make things right before posting this review.In summary, we have paid $800 for one half of a lawn mow, 15 minutes worth of pine cone picking up, mulched beds that now have weeds and one cedar tree removal. My pregnant wife is upset to tears that she made the choice in going with Roger. She feels utterly ripped-off and taken advantage of. In addition to ignoring us, he never gave us a written quote/contract/estimate (he said he doesn’t do those, he goes by “his word”), nor were we given a receipt for the money paid.We are filing a report with the Better Business Bureau and leaving this review in the hope others don’t get treated this way.We do NOT recommend Roger at all. If you absolutely must use him, make sure you get what he has agreed to in writing first, and hold money back until the work is complete. I would go further and not recommend using any business that operates only from a cellphone number.

Highly recommend Roger! Always very professional and kind. We hired him for our winter maintenance, for the past three years. And there was never an issue! He always had the parking lot snowplowed and salted in time for the buisness to open for the day. He also would take the extra step, to shovel a pathway to the front entrance.

Rocket Roger has been mowing my lawn and doing snow clearance for me for several years now and I am extremely pleased with his work! Roger is helpful, very communicative and a super nice fellow. He is always polite and professional. I feel I get very good value for my money with Rocker Roger's Lawn Care.
