Discount Car & Truck Rentals

Joke of a company. I asked to do a long term car rental of 3 months, they only do month - month (no problem, I'll just re-book) however, they were unhappy with me using my insurance policy from the UK, even though it covers me for rental cars in Canada and I have used it 10+ times (no issue). The only rental car company to refuse the policy, obviously trying to encourage you to use there own. Crooks, the worst rental company I have ever dealt with by far and they have lost a very valuable customer.

Easy rental, great experience. All the staff was super friendly. Manager checked in with me 24 hours after renting the car. Thanks for making a stressful situation into an easy one!

I can only describe my experience in one word Horrible. Avoid Discount at all costs. We received a rental car after having our car in for repairs after our car was struck by an impaired driver. We disputed a charge with the branch and their customer department. They opened a file and in spite of numerous calls never resolve the complaint. Seems their philosophy is ignore the customer and they will go away.The Whitby branch's manager was rude and condescending. While returning the vehicle he berated an employee in front of us when he was having a problem with the computer. Very unprofessional. AVOID at all costs.

Absolutely repulsive behaviour from operations manager Luciano Valerio and his minion, Carey. Do not rent here. Ever. We went past our insurance rental coverage by 1 day- measly cost of $41 and that very evening we had arranged to drop it off once our young children were in bed. Instead we came outside to find that they trespassed onto our property to take it, with all 3 of my children’s car seats inside. I had to take my children to school the next morning and my newborn baby to a doctor’s appointment. They stole my personal belongings when they took the vehicle (including my wallet and keys to my house and other vehicle) without even knocking on the door or calling ahead to allow me to remove my belongings. I had to call numerous people to locate the vehicle that they purposely had locked inside their facility to prevent me from retrieving my own property from it. That is SO illegal! Is this company run by the mob??? I do not trust this shady company at all. I’m having to call and cancel my credit cards that were in my wallet that they stole when their employee retrieved the vehicle because I wouldn’t put credit card fraud past these people. Horrible horrible experience. Vindictive and spiteful. You would think they would extend some kindness considering our unfortunate situation of having had our vehicle written off and choosing to give them the business for our rental. Have also reported the incident to their head office.

Terrible experience, they called and left a voicemail explaining that my insurance company had extended my rental by two days, and then called me the morning after the original date that the vehicle was supposed to be returned and told me I was now a day late and that I was on the hook for the extra day. WHATTTT....Very frustrating and manipulative! They have no problem giving courtesy calls while you have the vehicle, but where’s the courtesy reminder when it’s due back? Never again!

Wish I could rate the experience I had 0 stars. Firstly you will recieve non stop annoying calls and voicemails saying you must pay a deposit and the remainder upon arrival.. upon arrival you’ll see hidden additional charges that you cant see if you booked online. Second, the staff are completely useless and lack manners. I made a CLEAR reservation for 4 days and get a call a day early saying I’ll be charged extra because I still haven’t returned the rental. I was in complete confusion and stated I made the reservation for 4 days and not 3. Turned into a back and forth arguement and the lady on the phone (completely useless) said she’ll check it out and call me back. Did I get a call back? Nope. I thought I was the crazy one who made the reservation for the wrong dates so I checked my email confirmation and it looked like the company not only messed up my return date but also the return time. How are you going to call someone saying they’re returning the rental late when the evidence YOU sent is right infront of your face? Complete BS. I did not receive an apology for the confusion.. all I got was a “we’re going to have to charge you for the extra day because we accidently didn’t.”First and LAST time with this company. Book at your own risk, worst customer service and hidden charges on arrival they don’t tell you about when booking. NEVER AGAIN

Everything was fine except for one big problem - they manipulate things so you end up buying their insurance. They insist on seeing your full insurance policy (not just your pink slip) to prove your coverage extends to rental cars, but they know perfectly well that ALL Ontario policies extend to rentals (and who thinks to bring their insurance policy?). It's sneaky and it's a shakedown. If you rent from Discount, do yourself a favour and bring your policy or have your insurance rep ready to take a call to tell them what they already know.

I’ve been renting vehicles from Discount since 2015. Discount offers special week-end rates that are extremely competitive and we’ve been taking advantage of these offers. The Whitby, ONT, Office Manager ,Tom, and his crew are very professional and helpful, always confirming my booking or making last minute reservations . The service they offered us is courteous and vehicles were clean and in good working order.

After getting jerked around by both, Discount central booking and the Oshawa location (see review for Oshawa location), my wife and I ended up at the Whitby location with a very bad taste left in our mouths.Whitby however was a pleasant treat.Paige served us and was very patient, polite and efficient.Yama quickly cleaned a car for us so that we could be on our way as soon as possible.Together, these two employees saved face for Discount and should be commended by the company for exemplary customer service.

Best rental car service I've had, and I travel across Canada using rentals. Paige was amazing- we had her for check in and check out 3 days later- super friendly and professional. Only negative was they didn't have a car for us with booking a week in advance. Offered to take us to Port Perry or order one in from Pickering, which we did. VW SUV was nice but had a smell to it. All in all, very good - service made up for the car.
