Great if you want a job in retail. They were of absolutely no help to me. They do not care about your education and/or previous work experience and tell you that retail is all you'll ever be able to hope for. They help you make your resume good for retail. Its hard to think how Angelika could have been a worse counselor.

The Y emolument services is offered to newly arrived immigrant, among others, which was my case. The challenge to reestablish oneself as an adult immigrant in Canada has many challenges due to such various factors, as credentials standards of practices an bylaws. Equally important, workplace environment is also another milestone newly arrived immigrant must adjust to.The Y employment services brilliantly facilitate navigating through, in-depth understanding, and preparation to conquer the job market and find one's place. It goes above and beyond coaching, to mentoring. The level of trust and support that builds up between the mentor and the client (mentee) offers such a psychological, emotional and mental empowerment for the candidate while working on defining and achieving goals while optimizing wellbeing. This has been my experience at the Y employment services in Hamilton which much gratitude to the team and specifically to Miss Courtney Alexander. Thank you for all the constructive support and professionalism during the hardest times ever.Highly recommended service with such instrumental contribution to the community.

Mandy McIntyre is amazing! She helped our company get employees trained for DZ licenses. There is government funding for the majority of the cost. She knows her stuff, very positive and goes the extra mile to be helpful. She made it easy for us and is a pleasure to work with. Thank you.

If you go there expecting them to open doors for you in the job market you may be disappointed. But! It's great to have a place to work on computers (they have lots), to print for FREE, to see job listings and to be around other people also looking for work. Better than sitting at home by yourself. The free printing alone is worth it. The counsellors are hit and miss. Some are more skilled than others. So go! Ignore the one star reviews. These are written by people who had high expectations and were disappointed. Fair enough. BUT the truth is that if you want a good job you have to be prepared to do the footwork yourself. To be a go-getter. To network and meet people by making cold contacts or being creative in putting yourself out there! Volunteering is another good way to meet people and get a foot in the door. Don't wait for anyone to do it for you. You got this!

I think they are not as careful as they should be in determining the English language level (CLB) of newcomers, and this causes them to lose a lot of opportunities and their valuable time. This is not good at all. When I took the assessment test there, a new intern tested me as an exercise to learn the job, and I'm never satisfied to the result, where ever I tell about my CLB score people thing that I am kidding. But there is no other way, 2 years of my time will be wasted for the next exam.

I am new to Canada and been applying jobs for a month and no feedback at all....Don't regret it even for a second going to YMCA employment services office. I have a wonderful experience with my employment counselor Andalib Chowdhury!!! She helped me with the resume, helped me to understand how to describe my skills and work experience so it catches attention of an employer. I felt encouraged and motivated after I left the office. I already got few interviews scheduled after submitting new resume... Can't believe it I waited for a month, should have gone there earlier. And for those who expects that your employment counselor will get you a job... I do not think it's possible. They do not give you fish to eat just for a day"

I did not receive a single job recommendation and when I had my documents provided from my current employer they had closed my account and wouldn’t re-open it. Sorry but did not find this helpful at all.
