HISTORICAL CHINATOWN TOURS

I was impressed with the access to the Association and Freemason buildings for a behind the scenes look. The history is evident in the structures and furnishings as well as the elaborate décor. Judy has incorporated several guest speakers from the Chinatown community who are very informative about how things have become as they are today. They are readily available for questions and the direct contact with the community members themselves is an added highlight I have never experienced on a tour before.

If you want a great experience I highly recommend spending time with Judy with either a tour or her masterclass dumpling extravaganza.Judy is a great host, knowledgeable, congenial, a fantastic sense of humour, a apparently knows everyone in Chinatown.Local or tourist, you are missing out if you don't get the Chinatown experience with Judy.

Judy is knowledgeable about the Chinese Canadian history overall as well as the Chinatown globally. I had a wonderful experience with my tour. Highly recommended if you want to know more about Chinatown and Chinese Canadian history.

Judy is fantastic. I took my class on her tour as a field trip! She was great with the kids and told us all kinds of cool historical facts and secrets about Chinatown. We even got to go inside some really neat old buildings! Highly recommended.

I booked a Dumpling Masterclass to celebrate mine and my boyfriend’s third anniversary, and we were both absolutely blown away by the experience! It was educational, engaging, and delicious. Not only did we get to learn a bit about transnational Chinese migration and Chinatowns all over the world, but Judy wove in a bit of her family history and stories about local shops/stores which made the experience so much more personal and special.It was really nice to walk around Chinatown and learn about the clan associations and meeting different shop owners and chefs. We were greeted so warmly (and once even with a free sample!). It was clear Judy is very well-known and loved in the neighbourhood.The venue was warm, well-lit, clean, and super nice aesthetically. The ingredients were very fresh, and Judy is an awesome teacher. She gave us clear directions and made great conversation, but also gave my boyfriend and I space/time to ourselves to fold our dumplings and laugh together, which we really appreciated. I’m sure it goes without saying, but the dumplings (and all the dipping sauces) were fantastic.Judy has a warm, outgoing personality and a great sense of humour. She went above and beyond, making it a super special night that we’ll never forget!

I had the pleasure of trying Judy's famous dumplings. And OMG they are so good that if they fell on the floor i would eat them right off the floor. That's how good they are. Could not waste one little morsel. And on top of everything Judy has the most generous kindest heart. Helena

Our group of six spent a wonderful evening with Judy recently. We were blown away by her knowledge of the history and people of Chinatown. Her passion for her community is evident in the stories she tells. We were a bit worried about walking in the drizzly weather but Judy’s enthusiasm and humour more than made up for it. The dumpling making was also so much fun. She patiently showed us her technique and was very generous with all the different dipping sauces. And the dumplings were delicious of course. I’d highly recommend Judy and Historical Chinatown tours!

Outstanding Chinatown Tour for Staycation or Visitors alike!I had a wonderful Saturday afternoon with friends taking part in a tour of our very own backyard that is too often overlooked and taken for granted. Judy Lam Maxwell of Historical Chinatown Tours has a true gift as a story teller and Keeper of Heritage Knowledge" about the rich background of Vancouver's Chinatown. We were privilaged to visit several of the oldest buildings in Chinatown that most people walk past everyday. Judy has the relationships to gain access to several of the Clan Association buildings that date back to the 1800s and house community activities for older members of the Chinese Community along with annual rituals of Chinese New Years and the plans for future generations.The photos show one of the oldest buildings in Vancouver renovated to include business and an art studio on the main floor

Judy is absolutely amazing and so much knowledge being such a young person. She gains access to places no one else could get and has a story for every corner, building and floor. Her alliances throughout Chinatown are to the benefit of every guest she has. Do take the tour and finish with an authentic dumpling masterclass and you do get to eat the dumplings at the end! Bravo Judy!

My partner and I had a wonderful tour with Judy. She was very accommodating when I made a payment for a tour, but for some reason she did not receive the payment due to the the third party that deals with the payments. She was able to coordinate a time to do the tour despite everything, which was really appreciated. The tour could not have been any better because it was really great to learn about Chinatown while being able to see all the historical buildings that are really hidden in plain sight due to the vagrancy issues in that area. Making dumplings with Judy was so fun and informative. Also, the dumplings were soo good! I would recommend everyone to give this tour a try.
