Davenport Place Community Center

I must say that I am extremely angry and disappointed with the management of Davenport Place in Red Deer.My wife and I looked over a property that was for sale, but the houses in Davenport Place are modular homes (not to be confused with mobile homes). As a result, in addition to finances and the other usual conditions involved in purchasing a home, we needed to be approved by the site management. We met with them and everything seemed to go well.We loved the house we viewed so much that we made an offer to purchase, which the sellers accepted. The next day we were approved for a mortgage, which only serves to make the sequel doubly disappointing.Because Davenport Place maintains the property and charges a service fee (similar to a condo fee), we needed to fill out a lease agreement for manufactured homes, the purpose of which is to inform the bank that we would own the building but not the land. The management told us to have it signed by the bank, but the bank had a couple of questions we couldn't answer. They asked us to have the Davenport manager call the bank.My wife called the Davenport office and explained that the bank wanted them to call. They said they don't deal with banks. My wife replied that it was a simple request for information, to which they replied that maybe we weren't the right people to be residents of Davenport Place. My wife replied that she felt they were being rude.Shortly afterward we received an email stating that we were not approved as residents. No explanation was offered. We are angry over the fact that such a wonderful deal was snatched away at the last moment for no apparent reason.These people have shown themselves to be arbitrary, unprofessional, and mean-spirited. Their actions have severely disappointed my wife and myself, they have angered the sellers (who want to move into a facility that offers assisted care), they have caused our real estate agent and our respective lawyers to lose revenue, and they have generally wasted everyone's time.I believe they do not have the right attitude to be in charge of a seniors residence and they might be better employed selling popcorn at Galaxy Cinemas. If somehow we were to be approved over their unspecified objections, it would likely result in a degree of friction between them and ourselves and we are not prepared to spend our future in a potentially hostile environment. We will never again consider buying property in Davenport Place.
